I'll be getting my old g4 450 cube back sometime soon and would like to do some upgrading.

I'd love to find a cheap cpu upgrade, one of the sonnet's or something. I think I have enough ram in it... but might need an AGP card for it.

A new case, as mine is rather dung up, would be nice.

Maybe even a 17" ADC display... anyone?

Let me know what you have and I'll extend offers if interested. Thanks!

What do you think the chances are of fitting a Radeon X1600 (or some other card with hardware accelerated H.264 decoding) into a Cube. It's always been a pipe dream of mine to get and max out a Cube to be used as a media center, and if I could get one that would do H.264 in HD I would be further motivated.

It's been a long time since I've even seen my cube... but I think there are space limitations and a few other factors that might limit such a card.

While I know nothing of the 1600, or even much about H.264... I'd say "no way" with relative certainty.

I should be getting back my Dual 1.5Ghz G4 upgrade card for a Cube soon. I had to RMA the last one, and plan on just selling the new one I get from Powerlogix.

I've had some interest, but if you're interested as well, you can always PM me an offer.

I won't have it for another week or so, so take your time and no rush.

the 1600 and all those other nice new video cards run on pci express home slice. im pretty sure the cube is 2x/4x AGP so you are going to need to limit yourself to the 9800 pro. the 9800 pro was a great card when it came out but now its pretty lower-middle end, which is fine but games wont run like butter on high. you can upgrade the cpu to somewhere around 1.8 gig and max out the ram

Let me also add that a great place to find Cube related info, especially on video cards that will work for it is cubeowner.com. I would recommend getting either a FX 5200 256MB, or a Radeon 9200. GeForce 3 is nice, too, but really pricey. I think Doucy2 has one, you might want to hit him up and try to work out a deal. The 9800 will fit in the Cube, but only certain versions, and I think one guy who has one on cubeowner.com needed an external power supply for it, 'cause it's quite the beast.

Either way, good luck and have fun upgrading the Cube!

the 9800 saphire will fit in the cube but it is a pc card that has to be flashed and all and i think you have to mod it some
i have a geforce 3 put took it off the marketpalce (because its going in the cube i just got :))
i will have a ati rage or a ati 7000 (agp) that i could sell you

A powerlogix 1.5 upgrade doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Pushing a 100mhz bus to 1.5ghz... just not the most efficient bang for the buck... or $450.

i *might* have a owc 1.5 ghz upgrade single for around 300..a little less then the dual...

Yeah, I realize the Dual 1.5 is a bit pricey, that's why I'm still open to offers on it. It is very fast, though - it ran the Photoshop test in 1:29. So keep it in mind, and feel free to PM me with any offers.

Thanks!

Oh, and I don't know how interested you are in adding more RAM to your Cube, but I have a 512MB stick I pulled out of mine up for grabs:

I'm going to get my cube back from my brother on Thursday. I'll see then what I have in it.

My gut is its maxed out, but I don't even remember how much that'd be.

If I need it, you'll be the first one I come to.

Well, just for the record. I got my cube back from my brother this weekend.

I was very surprised, after upgrading it to panther... how zippy the OS was. For a 450mhz cpu, this g4 really gives it the business.

That said, everything else is pretty painful to watch.

I was able to download the software I really wanted and give it a spin... and it's enough to convice me that this thing isn't going to cut it.

So, in closing. Cube parts are now for sale.
