I'm looking to sell my G5, as listed in the title. It's a Rev a Dual 2Ghz with:
2.5 gig RAM (2x256+2x1gig)
1.5 TB HD space (500gig +4x250gig)
Sonnet 4+4 SATA card connecting 3 extra drives
Original Radeon 9600xt
OSX 10.4
Airport extreme
External Bluetooth dongle
Apple Wireless Keyboard
Apple pro wired mouse
Superdrive
Again, this is a feeler. What would you offer for the system (no trades)?

There was a config almost just like this not too long ago for sale, I don't know if it sold, but fo some reason I believe the requested price was 2k USD. Is the machine under applecare?

I'm actually looking for a second machine (don't get your hopes up, I'm broke until Uncle Sam pays me back the money he stole).
I'd probably ask $~1300.00 - $1500.00.

I think $1300 is a great offer, and should sell fast. Although, it kind of makes me sick to consider what my PMG5 is worth then!

I agree the HDs add a lot of value to the machine, you should aim a bit higher. :D

yeah, no applecare, but i'd say that with the HDD space, I could ask $2700 or so. I'll probably have it up for sale in about a week or so...i'll post here first.
EDIT: Just did a build-up of the current Dual 2 from the apple store, and it would be roughly $2700 without the extra drives. That would mean after all additional my current system retails for around $4000.

What are you using to mount the extra hard drives?

Not to threadcrap, but I can't imagine any scenario when you'll get $2700 for a 3 year old out of warranty machine. I know this is a feeler, so I guess I'd offer my input:
I'd say under $2000 would be maybe fair. It's got some nice add-ons, but it is older, and PPC machines are losing quite a bit of value. For the kind of money you were thinking, I have to believe most people would just buy a quad.

You know I think I was a little low.
If you take 4 250GB HDD's (being generous, the new units come with a 250 for an extra $75) and the Sonnet upgrade, that's $500 new.
~$250.00 for the RAM, new....
So that's $750.00 retail plus $2999.00 for the unit new is $3,750 +/-.
Depreciate that over three years and I think the previous poster is on the mark.
$1,700 - $2,000 max, especially considering the different architecture of the newer machines, better video cards, DL Superdrives, PCI-E, etc .
Nice machine - you should be able to sell it quickly.
Good luck with your sale. :)

it's still a great machine and worth at least $2000, IMO, if not more. it's better than the machine i have up for sale (an add'l 250GB + AE)...just a better graphics card and it's a serious machine. people underestimate how much disk space and ram cost...sure, get a new dual core for $1999, but with HD space and ram, it's now a $2700 machine.

gotta keep quiet on MR but...
on eBay there is always people looking to get machines loaded with "Pro" and "hard to come by" software. Of course, they dont want to pay for the software.
Selling a computer with the HDs AS IS and unformatted gets more bids when you mention that prior to boxing it up you had blah blah and blah on it. You havent formatted the HD but you are selling the HDs as is..
does that make sense? I know its kinda messed up to ask for more because it has software on it (which is kinda illegal anyhow) but on eBay people PAY more for it.

I know you're not suggesting it or saying you did it, and i want everybody to recognize that before they flame you.
But I want to know... how legal is it?
And I'm looking for cash for a quad, no trades, sorry.

The real question is : How illegal is this?
And the answer is : very.
$1850 around here. $2000 on ebay.
IMHO, but looking at the refurb store... I can get the dual 2.7 for $2149. Not helping your case.
:) :D
Good luck!

If you spend the time to call you can do even better than $2149 for the Dual 2.7.
I just purchased a refreshed G5 Dual 2.7 from the Apple Store in Costa Mesa CA (South Coast Plaza) for $1799. I called and had them find me a refreshed Dual Core 2.0 for $1499. Then I had them check the last generation of G5s' and they had one G5 2.7 dual for the $1799. I did this last Friday.
I also managed to get a Apple 23 HD Cinema refreshed for $899 from them. Of course I purchased Applecare for them ( I am a teacher so it was discounted as well), got the Student and Teacher 3 pack of MS Office for $149 (with a $50 mail in rebate) and .Mac for $69 (Teacher Price).
I am pretty happy with the set-up. Now is a good time to buy if you ask a lot of questions and are a little pushy.
Good Luck
