Software Update?

I have been trying the last 20 min to check the update, but keep getting the same error.

I talked to Apple this morning, and it turns out that several people have the same problem. They had no clue when it was going to be back up. "Try again this afternoon." Of course it is still down.

I'm having the same problem, except with even worse problem. Whenever I check, my computer makes this really loud piercing sound. I have a PowerBook 800 MHz and it has never made this sound before. Also, the sound goes away if I quit System Preferences. Any Ideas what is goin on?

Same issue here almost, except mine never finishes and it takes so long to cancel that I end up having to force quit, no loud piercing noise though thankfully....perhaps 10.2.4 is getting ready to go out via update?
