Welcome to the contributor's guide to AppleKeynotes.com (http://www.applekeynotes.com/).
AppleKeynotes.com aims to be the best website for finding and downloading Apple Keynotes in the world. To achieve this, we need your help, and your Apple video clips.
If you have a few Apple Keynotes, a bit of spare time to upload, and a generous soul, read on. :)
There are a few steps you need to follow to get uploading quickly. :)
1. Create the file. We would like all video clips to be posted in .zip format, so that when a user clicks on the file, it doesn't attempt to stream - it simply downloads. We think thats what most users will want.
Luckily, it is very easy to create a .zip in Mac OS X. Simply locate the file you wish to upload, right click on it, and select "Create Archive Of "[file name]"". OS X will create a .zip in the same location as the file was originally in. Thats all you have to do.
2. Download an ftp client, or use one you already have. Try CyberDuck (http://cyberduck.ch/) (thanks for user input) as a freeware client if you don't already have one.
Find where you insert new details, and do as follows..
Server: applekeynotes.com
Username: macrumors
Password: PM ME
Location: /keynotes
3. In the FTP client, you need to find the right place to upload your keynotes. There may be a folder called "..." initally. Eneter this. Then enter the folder applekeynotes. Then enter the folder Keynotes. This is where we want the keynotes to be kept.
4. Register for AppleKeynotes.com WordPress here (http://applekeynotes.com/wp-register.php).
5. Log in to AppleKeynotes.com here (http://www.applekeynotes.com/wp-admin).
6. Go to "New Post". Title your Keynote, select the area you want to save it into (category), and type up a short summary. Then locate the file you have upload, which should have been uploaded here (http://applekeynotes.com/keynotes/), and include a link to the download in your post, preferably using the HTML - use the tags <a href="your link">Text to describe your link</a>. If you don't understand this, don't worry - an administrator will fix it for your as soon as possible.
7. Reflect in your own goodness - you are great - thanks!
These steps are brief, and I will add more detail, and screenshots, asap. Thanks all.
Note 9/2/06 - the WordPress theme appears to be slightly messed up, I am working to get a better one in. Thanks.

Or incase any of you are lazy, you can simply upload your file and one of the admins will create the post for you. I know I'll be more than happy to do it for anyone who doesn't want to take the time to create the post them selfs.

May I suggest creating a subdomain (media.applekeynotes.com) and a separate FTP account for the subdomain to accomplish the task of only letting people have access to the media folder and nothing else? If you need help, PM/IM me.

You're quite welcome XIII. There has been some serious uploading going on today so far. In one day we already have the same amount has the FileFront site has. How are the download speeds so far? Is this better to use than filefront?

Just tried to upload WWDC 2003 and got a "upload failed" error in FTP Thingy. Honestly, I don't really like this app all that much. At one point, it was using like 189MB of RAM.
I've tried RBrowser and didn't really like it, either. I liked CyberDuck, but when I tried to download it earlier from VersionTracker, it wouldn't download. I also just tried the link to it in this thread and it wouldn't work, either. I guess their server is down.

Just to confirm,
I've downloaded the WWDC 2005, but somehow, the extraction process failed and it hung my copy of StuffIt Expander... tried re-downloading and extracting, but the problem still persisted. Anyone having the same difficulty....?
At other times, extracting other keynotes packages crashes the Expander as well, though not all the times
just to let you guys know....

coz i still have other downloaded stuffs with are still being compressed using the .sit extension.
I know it's the wrong channel to ask here, but is there a way to isolate the .zip files from ever using StuffIt....? Coz I'm using Speed Download ver. 3 to download the keynotes in queues, so as it finishes, it automatically extract the packages via StuffIt Exp.....

Hmmm. Not sure. I'll have a look for you. I'm guessing in Stuffit's prefs you can ask it not to expand zips, and therefore by default OS X will do it.
