The site won't let me use a custom avatar. Am I missing something?

You have to get to 500 posts first.

And please post threads in the right section.

it was actually in the MacProjects -> Open Discussion section. I moved it to Community Discussion. :)

Yes, there is a minimum of 500 posts before you can get an avatar. It's supposed to encourage particiation - but sometimes encourages abuse (multiple useless posts) - which is frowned upon.
