I've lurked a little here, just registered, this is a fine place, much less pain than the Uusenet crowd, its amazing what a common interest can do...

I'm an Audio Tech lecturer in London, been on Mac's since the 160 PB, (40meg HD? Why does it need to be so big?) Now running a Ti 400, but have just ordered a 17' AluBook (?).

I'm an audio recording specialist, more studio than Mac, but I know ProTools and Logic like brothers, and I quite fancy that Reason tart too.

So, Hi to everyone, I hope to be getting to know you better.

Welcome...

Yes... Usenet had it's day... but now-a-days I find that a good web-forum on a topic tends to draw better conversion... though I still use deja/google groups for searches.

Welcome to another fellow brit (and a fellow London Dweller to boot). At this rate we'll have more brits than Americans!

With over 14,000 members, i somehow doubt that one extra fellow brit is going to do much to redress the balance. Mind you, it might help for when the amis try and gang up with comments about yellow teeth queen's-arse kissing, etc.... :)

Welcome to the boards WinterMute. Hope you enjoy it here.

heck, i'll give you los angeles for a couple of pounds of cadbury's fruit and nut....

and no, mackie wasn't giving out anything at namm... they used to be the kings of "swag"..they're certainly much tighter since greg stepped aside after they went public.

but namm was still fun.... where else can you see gene simmons, eddie van halen, les paul, george clinton, herbie hancock and buckethead while strolling thru the gear displays...

I've only been registered since July 2002, but I've lurked since mid-2001. I have to say, this forum is the best one out there. Hope you like it here!

although i don't look at the sorver logs, there does seem to be an unusually strong presence from the brits. while the aussies lollygog behind and the japanese have a few strong representitives.

while i was about to complain and say 'it would be nice to see apple take a more international approach' it ocurred to me, that while, i still wish they would, they are probably the leaders in multi-national international consumer orientation. with online apple stores, world wide expo presence (no more, it would seem, but they are sure to fill the void with something) and worldwide warranties, to name but a few features.

apple is far from an ideal, but it is easy to remind myself why it is better than the rest.

Not SAE i'm afraid, used to teach at Media in Brixton, but that was a while ago.

I tend to think SAE is too expensive for the product they offer, sure, some good guys have come from there, but they had the talent to start with...;)

TVU runs 20-odd studios now, all tooled up on ProTools, logic etc on G4's, as well as 4 5.1 rooms based on the little Sony DMX R-100. We've got a couple of large format rooms, but it's a minority game now, and only the seriously rich or dishonest can play:D

Did you train at SAE, or do you work there?

Where are you now?

I don't think my parents would approve of me meeting a bunch of strangers who spend their spare time reading about electronic equipment.

BUT, if we were to meet, London Eye is the best. We could go up in one of the balloons and discuss macs while the other people look at us like we are nutters.

Gaddd...

When my wife and I first moved over here from Australia 7 years ago (and me, 4 years previous, from New Zealand...), we stayed on Cromwell Rd - next to the Natural History Museum. Now, we live in Twickenham - 10 minutes' walk from the Rugby stadium.

With any luck, I'll hear the Rolling Stones as I stand on my front doorstep when they play there soon...

...amazing they're still playing - especially since we saw their Voodoo Lounge concert in Sydney, which was billed as their "Farewell" tour.

What liars...
