Does anyone know of any alternatives to using Google as a search engine? I know A9 is supposed to be quite good but they use Google to "enhance" their search results...

alltheweb.com is okay. It's a joint venture between Overture and Yahoo. (Overture is really a Yahoo subsidiary these days, but they still operate like they're just pals.)

I'm OldSkool... I like using Yahoo. I'm generally happy with the search results, and I like seeing the news headlines on the right-hand side.

Huh, now you have fun. Alta Vista is out because that's Yahoo too.

How about icerocket.com? I know that they compile at least part of their own search database, possibly all.

I'm pretty sure that MSN search is an independent engine. I'm not sure about AskJeeves and Lycos, but I think they might be independent too. Personally, I think all three of them are pretty awful.

What's wrong with Google and Yahoo?

IMO they are the best two search engines out there (I think Google is somewhat better though).

I like dogpile.com. It puts all the common search engines into one.

Google is king of search engines. Simple, fast, and effective - why would you seek an alternative?

The only thing I'd like to see Google add is some sweet AJAX to show results after searching.
