MechAssault: Phantom War Announced for Nintendo DS
First handheld version of popular Xbox franchise.

February 16, 2006 - Majesco announced today that the MechAssault franchise will be coming to the Nintendo DS later this year. MechAssault: Phantom War will include over 20 types of vehicles (including Mechs, Tanks, Turret, and BattleArmor), 24 single-player campaigns across four planets, wireless multiplayer combat for up to four players, and a brand new story. The game is being developed by Backbone Entertainment.

“MechAssault: Phantom War fuses the best game play elements from the series with new features that take advantage of the unique mechanics of the Nintendo DS,” said Ken Gold, vice president of Marketing for Majesco Entertainment. “The touch screen lets players intuitively ‘touch’ the cockpit controls to hack into giant ‘Mechs, eject pilots, switch weapons and check battle techniques.”

WOW this looks sweet, Ive been missing games like mech for the past few years, havent played a mech game in like 7 years but now that I got my DS I´ll definitely pick it up. All the DS needs now is Zelda and a good FPS.

So this game finally came out. Has anyone played it? I'm thinking of asking for it as a late birthday gift, but I don't know if it's any good.

Never really got into these kind of games. I think I'm waiting for a 1st person one where you can see all the contols and innards, maybe even walk around it?

Think I'm after a blend of Rocket Slime (or whatever its called) and a mech game.
