I know I had an earlier thread, but now I'm looking for much more.

I've managed to gather enough RAM (640MB), but I'm looking for some things to make this beast a real force.

1) I'll still listen to RAM offers
2) Superdrive would be great, faster the better
3) Hard drive cage, the one in this has been renewed
4) Daughtercard upgrade, preferably 733MHz or higher SP.
5) Possibly a decent sized ATA disk, although these are fairly cheap and accessible elsewhere.

Please post or PM me what you have for sale, I'll be checking this often.

These are all for a SP 400 Sawtooth G4. Many thanks.

I still have 256MB DIMMs for 20 a piece. >.> I also accept trades! ^_^

Update:

Have the drive cage. Swapped out the CDRW for a DVD-ROM, but would still like a DVD-R. I'm deciding if I need the more RAM or not, and I'll get back to you on that very soon.

new daughtercard would still be great also.

Thanks all.

I've had a PM offering a 466MHz daughtercard, but I'd prefer something faster. Anyone have a 700MHz -1GHz CPU? How much should I expect to pay in this range?

Still actively looking for a processor upgrade (used Sonnet, etc. or a 500MHz daughtercard from a Sawtooth). I think if I need to I'll pick up a $40 16x DL Superdrive from newegg.

Just a heads up Ryan, you wont have much luck here, unless you are willing to solder a 12v line to a QS / DA processor CPU board.. and then cut the IDE connector off your Sawtooth logic board. For your logic board the 500 Sawtooth (or Dual if you have the right UNI version) is as fast as they go (which you may have known?).

Most upgrades (sonnet / powerlogix / gigadesigns) G4 upgrades sell for at least $150 and up for your machine, they are still in high demand.

You can, however, find QS / DA cpus' cheaper on Ebay and perform the above modifications for it to work. Just added this becuase you did ask :)

Thanks very much for the help. I'm kind of just figuring this out now. I'd be happy with a reasonably priced 500MHz CPU, but I'm not quite ready to spend $150 on a machine that won't get used *that* much. If the right deal was offered to me, I might bite though.

Any idea how I can tell if my machine is DP compatible? And those would have to be Sonnet type upgrades right, since Apple never put out dual 400-500 machines like they did for Gigabit, etc?

Thanks again.

Ryan,

Here ya go (DP info / UNI checker).

http://www.sonnettech.com/support/techtips/duet_tt04.html

You might be able to take a 450 CPU and clock it to 500, I can try and find that info and PM you if you are handy with a soldering iron. (and willing to take risks!)... not endorsing, but letting you know :)

EDIT: Just to add another variable, a boost in HD (either SATA 10k or SCSI 10k) will greatly improve that OS X 400 system... and be usable in the future... money well spent. You can find Firmtek cards for $63 and the Raptor is a heck of a nice system drive. (or a new 7200 Seagate for $29 at your local ChumpUSA).

and here is the Sawtooth CPU site I spoke of...

I actually have a SCSI card in the machine, I should check into what exactly it is. The one variable here is I'm trying to keep the machine quiet, which 10k drives sometimes aren't the best at, but it's certainly an idea.

I'll be buying a newer 7200RPM drive soon anyway, as the older ones in there now are juuust a bit too loud for me, as well as fairly small.
