I got a Mac 2nd hand with OS 8.5. I've got the OS 8.6 free upgrade files, but want to know whether running this upgrade would mean I'd have to re-install all the software already on the Mac. Because I got this system 2nd hand I don't have the installation disks. Any way of upgrading the OS and keep the progs as well?

depending on what mac you have, you should also take a look at mac os rom update 1.0 for OS 8.6 after you do the update. it applies to several mac models.

Good thought I had forgotten about this is was so long ago. Though it would have to be a B/W G3 or newer to have an updateable rom.
