Hey yall. I understand that iDVD only supports internal apple superdrives. however, I am on an "older" Tibook and was wondering if there is a way to make dvds with menus and such, like idvd, with an external dvd burner. Is dvd studio pro as easy to use as idvd? Thanks.

Short answer is "no" (DVDSP is to iDVD what FCP is to iMovie).

LethalWolfe is correct. The answer is a big no-no.
But I wonder what happens to the recent third-party DVD-R internal drives you can buy for TiBooks. I guess they are considered non-Apple and the same deal as external ones? If they use the completely same unit as Apple's, it mighty work out, huh?

right on lethal, DVDSP has a steep learning curve. It not nearly as bubblely and pop and drop like iDVD is.

You might want to look into getting a Devideon Firewire DVD burner. It comes with DVD authoring software. I've heard that it's not as good as iDVD, but the software has been getting better and better.
The best thing about Devideon is that it works with G3s as well as G4s.

Let's be real, there will be a hack soon to make iDVD work with non-apple burners, whether it's masking the drive to look like Apple, or patching the program to not check... with the new features of iDVD, it's bound to happen soon...

pnw The reality is that there was an "enabler patch" that allowed iDVD to be used with OWC's Firewire DVD burners. Apple put a kibosh on that really quick.

I was looking at that internal dvd burner upgrade for the Tibooks. It'll be available the 25th for $499, AND, get this, it says that it's compatible with iDVD... way too cool!
