I finally have an MBP and therefore have a mac that is capable of playing games to a decent level. So now I need to know what is a good game controller for the mac. I am specifically thinking of trying doom 3. Any advice would be much appreciated as I am new to all of this.

you want to play doom 3 using a controller? wow....to each his own i guess.
logitech makes some nice ones, i have their $15 model and i use it on my pc for n64 and nes emulators. it's basically a ps2 controller with a usb header--no vibration or anything but it works nicely.

a lot of (most?) people prefer playing it with a keyboard and mouse (me included) because they feel it gives them more control than a gamepad. some people like the controller though--i was just surprised :p not meant to be an insult or anything :)

I also find the Keyboad and mouse "difficult" for FPS, which is why i only play them on console's.
Been gaming since the Spectrum and still find it unnatural and weird.

The best controller for the mac is the Xbox 360 Wired one, you can get a driver for it here:

it works great in games like halo, and asuming mac doom can be played with a controller at all it should be quite good as the xbox version of doom is easy to control without a keyboard and mouse.
As long as the controller has 2 sticks, 1st person games are as easy to move about in as with a kb / mouse.

anybody know of a list of mac games that support controllers? Just having trouble thinking of games that I might want to use a controller on, but then I've only got Diablo 2, Star/Warcraft, and Rise of Nations.... Are there good racing games for mac?

I think a list of games with an arcade slant to them would be more useful.
shoot em ups, racing games, platformers that sort of thing.

Controllers? There's always a healthy market for the wealth of console emulators. My personal favorite was always the Sega Saturn controller. I'm a big fighting games fan from way back. You could always use these (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-19-49-en-15-saturn+style-43-a.html) with this (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-7s-49-en-15-guilty%2Bgear-70-9f4-43-a.html). Check out the pure white version. I own both a black and white versions to match the colors my US and Japanese PSTwos. I'm thinking of picking up the USB versions now to go with a new Mac Mini, the ultimate emulation machine, it even looks like a game console.

How do you play doom 3 with a controller? There are no options for it.
