Well, I have this Dell Truemobile card I just bought.
It is well known because it actually has a Lucent Chipset in it, so it's basically a rebranded Airport card. It was brand new when I got it, but I took it out to test it in my older powerbook. Worked like a charm in OS 8.6 with orinoco drivers. I then tested it in my iBook Clamshell where it appeared exactly has an airport card with zero configuration! It's a great card because not only does it work in any OS from 8.6 to 10.4, but It also works in windows too! I realized I dont really need to have another wireless laptop and could use the money :D It also has the option to use an external antenna.
Looking for $50 shipped OBO NOW $45 shipped OBO NOW $40 shipped
Here is a pic I just took:

I have no idea how long it would take to get there, But I live in PA so I would say about a week? As for the money order, I only accept paypal, I hope this isn't an inconvenience.

Okay, one final price drop, to $40 shipped. That's a helluva deal and a whole lot cheaper than $100+ on an airport card!

Your SURE this is a drop in replacement for the airport card in older clamshell G3's? I've got a Tangerine G3 I just bought and doesn't have wifi in it. If you still have it, and you can assure me it will work with a G3 clamshell running Panther, then I'll buy it from you for $50 on Friday plus shipping :) Let me know! And if you've already sold it, could you give me the model number of that card and/or revision of the card, maybe I might get lucky somewhere else. I find it ignorant to pay 100-150 for a 5 year old 11mbps card!! You just might save the day!!

I can 100% garuntee that this card will work with a clamshell and panther (because that is what I tested it with ;) ) and yes, I still do have it, and I have another person that may be interested, but I will hold it for you until friday :D. THere is ont thing I should mention. In the clamshell iBooks there is a slight bulge with the card in place. Here is what the bulge looks like:

I didn't remove the external casing, but you can if you want to slim it down just a bit more. The bulge didn't bother me that much, and I would greatly prefer the $100 savings ;)

If there any way that you might be able to test it in one of the newer white iBooks? I'd be quite interested if it were guaranteed to work flawlessly in a wite iBook and with no bulge in the keyboard.
What exactly is causing the bulge, anyway? Is the card just fatter than the Apple Airport cards?
Thanks!

yes, the thing is, these cards have an external antenna that protrudes farther than regular airport cards. If you look in that link above, you can see that it works flawlessly in white iBooks as well. Unfortunately, I don't have a white iBook to test it with, but I'm poitive that it will work. Thanks.

I didn't actually notice that there were more pictures at that link if you scrolled to the right...haha. From the picture of the white iBook, there still appears to be a slight bulge.
So then, I take it that since Apple laptops have built-in antennas, the larger external antenna on the Dell card isn't necessary? (I am alluding to chopping it off...)
I am looking to get wireless on my sister's laptop for as cheap as possible as long as it works flawlessly and it doesn't disrupt the aesthetic appearance or make typing uncomfortable.

This would work flawlessly, and there would be zero problems with typing on the keyboard. There would be a very very slight bulge on white iBooks, and a slight bulge on clamshell iBooks. I dont know about chopping it off, as I haven't tried that, but I have tested it in 4 different machines, 2 apple, 2 windows, and it was recognized perfectly on all of them. Windows 2000, Windows XP, Mac OS 8.6 and Mac OS 10.3.9, it also works in tiger.
