View Full Version : Safari v54?
MacRumors
Feb 2, 2003, 12:31 PM
MacBidouille (http://www.macbidouille.com) reports that Safari should see a beta upgrade in the next week, but is unclear what improvements will be included.
David Hyatt's Safari Blog (http://www.mozillazine.org/weblogs/hyatt/archives/cat_safari.html) has been providing some details of bug-fixes and other considerations in the development of Safari.

This is true. I am running v54 on my Mac right now. Nothing majorly different... maybe just compatibility with previously broken sites?

BTW, the reason the whole dialog is brushed metal is down to Unsanity's Metaliffizer app, not Apple. :)

Updates are always good. :)
Anyone know why they do these "3" updates?
v48 to v 51
v51 to v54?
P.S. How do you have it J@ffa?

Probably because otherwise they'd be getting a lot of bug reports from people with 52 that were already corrected in 53, etc.

Now that would be telling ;)
I would post the file, but it's not really that important. I'm not desperately up for the idea of sticking my neck out to distribute a beta-beta of little significance, if you know what I mean.

As it is, Safari kicks ass.
By v1.0, Safari is going to kick ass, take names, and order pizza all at the same time. :D

J@ffa, you must not be getting the most recent builds -- I just got this one from a friend of mine:

Ok, something is wrong. How can J@ffa's v54 be Copyright 2001-2003, and nc1000's v56 have 2001-2002?

They corrected it in the latest build.

hopefully safari will be able to display flash with a higher framerate. now it's only 10 fps.

Feb 2, 2003, 03:16 PM
Flash..
Dave stated they fixed the flash bug a week ago or so, it was something silly once they saw it.
trilogic
Feb 2, 2003, 03:27 PM
In generall flash playback is faster on windows. but the flashplugin is behaving strange on macs. in some gecko based browsers especially netscape 6, flash gets much faster when you click the left mousebutton somewhere outside the flashmovie. I think flashplayback is best in ie and chimera at the moment.
ealar

Trilogic:
Currently Safari plays flash movies around 5fps; the playback isn't horrid once fixed apparently but they had compiled the plugin in incorrectly.
The next beta release is supposed to fix flash playback in Safari.

What's up with your Formac? I have a Formac Studio DV/TV, and it still works with iMovie.

Ummm so that means that if I tell you guys which build I have for real I'll be breaking my NDA? Oh no...I already gave a copy of the latest builds of 10.2.4 and Safari to one of my friends...

I heard someone mention once that you can get builds of upcoming updates (like 10.2.4) from Apple Developer Connection, if you are a member. I do have an ADC account, but I can't find anything much on the downloads page other than Java, Developer Tools, and such. Does anyone know where (if anywhere) I can download 10.2.4 (or perhaps a newer Safari build)?

Look close people. People are Photoshoping...
God stop BSing!
Look at the messy pixilation around the new version!
Ech there are people who have it, just not SOME people.
Errrr.
Edit: i vented. Don't photoshop the images, please it is easy enough to go into the packages and mess with it.
Just don't get too giddy when you do it because obviously you aren't the first (or the last).

It's a JPEG man. Low quality JPEGs are GOING to have that sort of pixelation, especially with something like TEXT that has sharp contours.

You gotta be a member (and not the cheap online dealie) to get a lot of cool stuff. if you're a member you get a seed key that enables you to download builds galore.

Yes, actually, it could. It changes the properties of the text. In fact, all that is happening is the shading screws with your eyes. It happens all the time in real life.
Although it probobly (?) is BS.

I don't know if you guys actually care, but MacBidouille is already mentioning build v58 for Safari (not available to Joe Public).
Some of you might wonder why a small french site always has so many rumours, I think it has to do with the fact that there are loads of french people working for Apple EMEA in Cork, Ireland. Last november at the Apple Expo in London, there were loads of them among the Apple staff (I talked to a few of them, impossible to get them to pipe a word about future upgrades...) and the 2 main guys of Apple EMEA are also french I believe. I also kept asking them why there was so little marketing done by Apple in Europe, and they didn't have an answer to that for me...
Sorry for that little off-topic intervention.
