Thanks skoker for the idea.
Ok MR..ers. I've got this iMac G5 you see, it's a great machine, works great - fast et al. One small problem, there's a crack or two on the screen, it's currently on eBay (link (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8790769074)), but after skoker was talking to me on iChat, he brought up the idea of trading it for a G4.
So I was wondering if anybody would be interested in such a trade, lemme run off my iMac's specs real quick:
17" 1.6ghz PowerPC G5
1gb of RAM
80gb Hardrive (7200 RPM)
Airport Extreme Card
AC Adapter
Manuals/CDs/Original Box
OS X 10.4 Tiger Preloaded
Combo Drive
64mb VRAM
I'd be willing to trade it (could possibly add cash) for the following:
17" 1.25 or higher PowerPC G4
768mb or higher RAM
60gb or higher HD
Airport Card (this is a MUST)
Adapter, CDs (not essential), Original Box (that would be GREAT)
Combo/Superdrive (doesn't matter)
Good condition
You only have 2 days to decide (so I can cancel eBay auction) so sorry to rush you, but if you're interested it can be/will be worth it.
If I do have to add cash to the trade I will do it via PayPal, and if I trade I will ship the iMac via UPS Ground with $1000 worth of insurance on it just to be safe (and heck if UPS damages it, you can get a new one with that money ;)).
If nobody wants to trade, then I'll see what I can fetch with the auction :).
I'll repost the pictures for you:

I won't stop you from buying it (either eBay or privately) if you're interested, PM/IM me and we can possibly work something out :).

And even if UPS doesn't damage it - you can still claim they did, show them the cracked screen as proof, claim the $1000 and then get a new one with that money...
But that would be highly unethical, and I would never recommend that to anyone... ;)

The box would have to be extremely damaged for them to do that and that's a pretty stupid thing to do.

I wasn't being particularly serious. Hence the ";)" .

i think you misunderstand me. i have absolutely no interest at all, the screen just looks interesting from an artistic standpoint. when i said "if i had the money", i meant if i had lots of money and nothing to do with it, which i unfortunately don't.

I thought the same thing! It's so... expressive. Unfortunately it's not a wallpaper... but hey, screen real estate is overrated. ;)

May I ask, how did that happen?

Looks like it got dropped on its head. Then someone got mad at the bleed at the top and threw something at it.

This was a feline related accident, seems Mr. Kitty got a little too frisky on the desk and made this great machine go timber.
(Yes, I'm serious.)

I highly doubt you can get someone to trade with you, but if so, you would be quite lucky.
If nothing comes out of trade or eBay, what would you do? How much would it cost for Apple to fix it for you? Does anyone knows of iMac screen replacement for "do it yourself" reparing?
I hate it when my cat gets on my desk. Once he got on top of my open Powerbook, and just sat there like it was all good. I hate that...I hate it when he gets on my desk because I end up with hairy keyboards on my PC and my Mac. One time I came home and he was literally using my 19 inch monitor as a scratch pole. Naturally I freaked out so all i did (blinded by rage) was get him out of there and launched him to the bed (not that bad...it was like a 3 foot travel over the air..he landed safely unharmed and proceeded to hide under the bed). It sucked. Now i have a widescreen 19 in. LCD which works great on my PC and my PB.
He also chewed up my mighty mouse cord, iPod headphones cable, and knocked over a glass of water on my keyboard on my PC.
I then had the perfect solution. I began to eat oranges. How does this help you ask? Simple...my cat HATES the smell or even sight of orange peel. So I leave orange peels on a small plastic tray right in front of my keyboard and screen...he never gets near it anymore, and the room has a nice orage smell!

I always said cats were no good. You could maybe trade the feline for a dog.

How on EARTH can you title that auction "GREAT CONDITION"? That would make someone like me VERY angry.
I'd give you $100 for it.

If you note the subtitle, you would see that it means everything is in good condition except the screen. People just seeing the screen cracked would infer that other things are probably screwed up, to which he is indicated that that's not true; everything is in "Great Condition" except the screen.

I think of it like a G5 mini on crack, except really thin :D. Or a super thin powermac G5. I'll be using it with my 20" widescreen and the external adapter, and it'll function exactly like a regualr desktop PC. Any way you look at it, its a very fast computer in a small package at a good price.
