My Quad has been sitting collecting dust for a few months as I've been performing most of my editing tasks on my Powerbook...now MacBook Pro. I just don't need it right now. It's a great gaming machine, a fantastic video editor, etc. Here are the specs:

Quad 2.5Ghz G5
5GB DDR 4200 RAM
500GB SATA HD
Airport Extreme
Bluetooth
nVidia 7800GT Graphics card
16x DL Superdrive
Standard warranty until December 2006, AppleCare can be applied.

This retails for over $4700+tax. I'm looking to get around $4000 for it. I can also include a 23" ACD for an extra $900. I'll post pics this weekend, but email me at moviecutter (atnospam) mac (dot) com if you're interested. I know there aren't a lot of people in the market for a powerhouse like this, but it's worth a shot. Thanks.

Oh man, wouldn't that kick ass. It's amazing the kind of things you accidentally type when you're drunk and tired.

Just wanted to say MovieCutter was great to deal with earlier in the week. Purchased a Retail FCP package, and it arrived in perfect condition with all documentation and manuals...

Thanks again MC.

I could totally buy this! I'd just need to sell my car, my Powermac G3, my dell laptop, my ipod, my xbox, my guitars, my DS, all my DVDs, my TV, my shoes, my clothes, my bed, my cat, my slippers, um... then I guess I could take a loan out for the rest... :p

... oh! I could sell my computer desk+chair too!

Ahhh... the $4000 gaming machine.

I understand that's not what's intended; I just thought it was humorous that the gaming aspect took priority on the list.

Well, hence one of the reasons why I'm selling it, that's all I use it for lately...when it should really be used for my Shake, Motion, FCP and DVD Studio work. Just haven't needed it for a while as my primary workload has been strictly editing, which I can do on my laptop.

Um, why would I downgrade a machine that I barely use anyway? Please refer to post #6...No trades thanks.

I'm willing to "part it out" to an extent or strip out some of the extras to make it more affordable.

How much would you sell it with 1GB or 2GB of RAM? Also, would you sell that 23'inch ACD for $900 seperately? Thanks

Probably around $3300 with 1GB, $3500 with 3 GB (2x512MB+2x1GB) if I must and yes, I will sell the 23" separately for $925 shipped+insured through FedEx.

If someone bought it with less than the 5GB, yes. I don't know what I would do with it otherwise.

For video editing how does the speed of the quad compare to the Intel Core Dual powered macbook pro? I would assume the quad to be faster but then you say you prefer the macbook pro.

It is faster, especially in terms of encoding. FCP is snappier, some of the filters and effects render quicker, I just can't justify having $5000 worth of machine sitting around to do it. After Effects screams because of it's multi-proc awareness. Motion runs better on it as well. I'm just not doing any high end stuff these days and the fact that I have a Quad at work helps too. I just don't need my own. I usually just play games on it these days anyway. Not to mention I can sit on the beach and edit sufficiently with a MacBook Pro, can't do THAT on a Quad.

Back up for sale. Buyer's company backed out after not being comfortable buying a used computer and saving more than a thousand dollars after stringing me along for two weeks.
