I've got an upgrade 9500 that's faster than the G4...and I bet I'll sell for less. I think you can upgrade them all the way to 800mhz now too. I have pics if you are intersted.

I dont think its faster. Its an upgrade card, on a 66 or 33MHz bus, and it can have a max of like 768MB of RAM.

The 9500 is slower with an upgrade card definitely. Although I do think you can put 2GB of memory in it. The 9600 is a very nice machine even today because of the PCI slots, but the 9500 is not so fancy. But yeah, its a 66mhz bus, which kills the speed, and its slow ram, and craptastic harddrive, etc.

Well, sure it's an older machine, but it has 6 pci slots, one with a firewire card and a 10,000 rpm 9.1 gig scsi HD...I wouldn't call that crappistic exactly.
Excuse me for a little salemanship, it will still crunch mega numbers, especially with that new card. I also have a ATI Radeon 7000 32MB video card in it.

PCI Radeon right? I dont know if that would play any games. Will quartz run on it natively?

it's a PCI card, yes ATI is the company that makes it. It was enough to play warcraft III, I beat the game not too long ago. To put OS 10 on a 9500 you have to do some simple hacking that I have not done yet. But yes, that would be enough for quartz, and yes many people have 10 running on older macs.

Wait until WWDCand see what they bring out. If Apple does not release any thing you want or can afford, they will push the prices of older Macs down.

Sure that will play it, my brother has one, but good luck mircoing at that low FPS (which is VERY important at a high level on BNET)

lol it works fine. my computer runs every single bliz game ever made just fine under os9.2.2. in fact, sc d1, d2, d2lod all run perfectly. wc3 runs at about 10-20fps but it works fine. the radeon would REALLY help things. and more ram. don't diss pci radeons.
