Window or full screen?
For a window:
Have your mouse pointer over the window.
Hit Apple(Command)-Shift-4.
Press the space bar.
When the camera pointer appears, click the mouse once.
It will create a window shot pdf file on your desktop.
Or better yet, read the Apple Knowledge Base article #107071 (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107071)
This acrually describes how the Apple-Shift-4 function works.

You can hit all at the same time
Shift-Apple-4
then move the mouse to the top left of the area you want to copy, click and drag it down to the bottom right.
An image file should then find its way to the desktop.

Or, If you like the idea of a gui, and or a timer. You can use grab (hd/applications/utilities/grab) or if you need MORE options, http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/snapzprox.html

Hehe, sadly I don't have the skills. I got it from some free animated gif site.

it is pretting interesting, is the person on skates or skis?
Been working on a new one myself, hopefully I'll get it done by next year ;)

Well, why don't we just hi-jack the thread and make it the 'tar thread :p. Well semi-back on topic, they are skates. I think we have the right to hi-jack the thread, right? We solved the problem he had. :D

Thanks. I had been using the Grab application, but this is much more convenient.

apple shift 3 takes a full-screen screenshot. there always seemed to be something inherently wrong about paying for screenshot utilities.

apple-shift-3 takes a screenie of the entire screen
apple-shift-4 by itself you can select the area with the mouse
if you press space after apple-shift-4, then a different mouse icon appears and it takes the screenshot of whatever part of the GUI the mouse is over..for example, a finder window, or the dock etc.
