View Full Version : WTB: iMac G4 / Early G5 UK

So, I was pottering around the recycling thread and got thinking.
Next year I'm moving up to York to live in at my accomodation for uni but I don't really want to take my shiny new iMac G5 with me - that's best off left at home for the minute.
But that said, I don't want to live off my iBook either, so what I need is a G4 (Lamp) or an Early G5 iMac to use while I'm there. Might at a pinch take a G3 as I loved the colours, but that's not the preference.
So what's the catch? I really have very little money to spend here, so cheap as possible is the key to this one. Doesn't need to be a beast. Needs to be enough to run Tiger on, iLife 06, and MS Office. That's all. I'm not worried about dead pixels (not hundreds, but I can live with some)
If anyone's got anything they're looking to shift on, can they let me know please? You'd be doing a near broke student a huge favour.
PS: Doesn't even need a keyboard or mouse!

I have this computer that I could sell you,
but I'm in the US. Shipping would be quite
expensive to the UK probably.
iMac G4 17"
800mhz processor
512mb ram (2x256)
80gb hard drive
2x superdrive
speakers that came with it
OS X 10.2 Jaguar CDs
1 green stuck pixel since day 1
I'll sell it for $650 plus whatever shipping costs.
It is probably $130-$150
The buy-it-now price on ebay for these models
is like $900, which is ridiculous. I think $650 is fair.
Still, shipping might really kick the price up.

Nah you're right nfortunately. The shipping would murder it, which is a shame as that's a nice machine otherwise.

That sounds like a good deal.
Is that a rev A? I'm guessing 17"? And FrontRow is hacked for that machine, right?
I'm not interested in the machine - just curious, and thought I'd give a free bump.

Hm, ok so looking at the prices coming through it's gonna have to be a G3 or G4 I go for. Thanks for the input so far though guys.

You still have my offer of my Mac Mini (1.42ghz) and a 17" LCD for probably about £335 (though I use USD) shipped (I would need to see if the shipping was way more than I think it is, but that's a guestimate).

See the mini I'm interested in, but I've no use for the LCD to be honest.

To be honest I haven't got one in mind, just as cheap as is humanly possible, it's really not got to do a lot at all. I'm kind of waiting to see what the lowest item that comes in is :P OS X of some sort and the ability to run MS Office is about all I really need out of it - oh and being able to run iLife 05 or 06 would be good.

For just the mini I may be able to do, say, £285 shipped (again, depending on if shipping is a lot more than I think it is).

Urm, I'm not sure what Rev. it is actually, it was purchased as a Refurb. from Apple about 2 weeks ago. Yes, 17", and Front Row isn't the official install (Please don't say hacked.. hacked to me normally means choppy graphics, or buggy - but this Front Row is flawless :p ), 250GB, 512MB (Gonna get a 1GB this week), Combo, Bluetooth..Tiger, iLife '06.. is £475 too much for it though?

If it has internal bluetooth (not a dongle), then it can't be Rev. A. If it hasn't got an iSight then it can't be Rev C. So it must be Rev B (assuming its PPC not Intel).
Also, if it's got 250GB then it has had its hard drive upgraded (as its a 17"). Also, if you only purchased it 2 weeks ago, then it still has 50 weeks of Applecare left to run.
All in all I'd say that £475 shipped is a good price - in fact I would guess that it would be worth more. [Remeber it is difficult to compare our £ prices to American $ prices, so don't worry too much if you think the equivalent of £475 in US$ is too high - thats rarely a good guide.]

Yay! Thats brilliant!
I guess its a Rev B then!
It was purchased as Refurb. but it came with Tiger, iLife 06 (Full) - the lot.. really really please. Oh, and Mighty mouse, which I dont think the Rev B's had.
Anyway, it came with 250GB from Apple, maybe that was the reason for the Refurb? But its flawless, not a mark on it.. really impressed.
Well, if anyone wants an iMac G5, £475 with Free Courier Shipping, lol.
Your all gonna hate me, but... I want a Mini or a MacBook (not Pro)... the only reason being... I really want an Apple remote :o [Don't hate! lol]

Just for info... if it's a 1.6GHz iMac G5 then it's a Rev A. The Rev B machines were 1.8 and 2.0GHz models.

Oh I don't know what it is lol, I only have them specs.. Don't really understand/monitor the Rev's. Is it worth £475 though?
B.T.W.. I love your avatar pic - how did you do it?
Also, what is the connection between the Crabs in your Avatars, and all your sigs involving Mad Jew? lol

Yep. I missed that. However it can't be both 1.6Ghz and have internal bluetooth - one of those pieces of informations must be incorrect.

Custom build model?

Custom build model?
Oh yeah... that would make sense (as long as internal bluetooth was a BTO option on the Rev A's - not sure about that myself though).
Anyway, ignore me - I'll just go and babble to myself in the corner.
