Best guess, when will new IBM chip reach LCD iMac?

well it hasn't even hit the powermacs... and who knows if it necessarily will.

the earliest it'd come in the pmacs is this summer. with a possibility of a cycle later. or of course, not at all.

i'd give it a year or so before it moves to the consumer lines....

i dont think you will see a 970 powered imac. i think you will see faster and faster g4 imacs and the 7457 showing up in it. The 970 will be for the pro line. just my guess.

I'm expecting spring (best) - to summer 2004 release.
Since powermacs are gonna be summer-winter the iMac can't be a whole year behind can it?

The most likely timeline is:

MWNY in xServe.

Late 2003 in the Towers.

MWSF 2004 in the PowerBooks (iBook discontinued at this time).

May 2004 in iMacs.

6 months from the towers to the iMacs? Not bloody likely, IMHO. I say IBM-powered iMacs with new enclosures at MWNY 2005.

I dont see Ibm powered imacs for a long long time. newer faster g4s in consumer line and the all powerful and mighty super bus and ddr screamer 970 in the powermacs. can i place my order now steve?

It's fun to dream, looks more and more likely that I won't be able to wait till the G5 970 is available. Think bright side let others break in the new PPC. :confused:

Except a brick of course

I think i'm going to wait till they bump the 17inch iMac one more time...... maybe to 1.4, or at least 1.25Ghz, then i'll get one. Also will get the 12inch powerbook when they bump it to 1Ghz...... hopefully won't be to long of a wait.

really is going to be an interesting year when it comes to apple and the cpu situation. Just saw a post by sunbaked that showed the 7457 up to 1.3. I just dont think motorola is advancing and are satisfied with phones ,toasters and the embedded market.( computers is a whole another matter)would it not be awsome for apple to come out in 6 months with ibm's in all of their machines.
