I was board and i was thinking of gaming and i somehow started thinking of all of the levels i hate in games that i love. So i am wondering, what are levels you can't stand in games you love?
Halo- the Library
Metroid Prime 2- that morph ball fight in the dark world without the protective suit
Mario 64- Dire, Dire Docks
That's all that i can think of right now. I'll post more later.

I had heard about this before but found the info on the mario wiki (http://www.mariowiki.com/index.php/Super_Mario_Bros._2) very interesting! Punks taking Doki Doki Panic and turning it into a Mario game! I never did like Birdo.

I have to say the last quarter of the orignal Half Life where ye go to the alien world and have to navigate jumping platforms. It was cumbersome, ugly and downright destroyed the enjoyment you had just experienced working up to an half life finale.....
Also Turok, the levels where you had to jump pixel perfect platforms in an FPS with really dodgy controls. They really peed me off....
Oh and if were tallking ridiculous final bosses, the one in FFVII still gives me migrane thinking about it.
Yeah the Library in halo sucked monkey balls too.

I'd also have to say the morph ball bost fight in the dark world was HARD. It took me 8-9 times to finally get it.
The planet in KOTOR where you have to walk underwater and you walk SLOW. THAT was retarded.
The Water Temple in Zelda. I just didn't like that. The boss fights were cool though.

SM64 Dire dire docks?? you didn't have to play the level, thats the beauty about mario 64, you can play the levels you like and skip "some" of the others. I thought the entire world of mario 64 was very well done.
The Halo Library was bad, I died so many times, I couldn't ever find that damn flying robot thing. After the Library the rest of the game is cake.
I liked the sailing around in zelda, very peaceful.
Any driving game level with really tight corners like- u turns where you basically have to stop and go around them. For 2 reasons, 1 there is usually little room for error. 2 the computer will often hit you and you get f'ed over major. The back turn in Tokyo, Forza is like this.
Levels in FPS where there are infinite enemies, like taking Hill 400 in COD2 on Veteran. There are infinite amounts of germans, and they will come from practically anywhere to kill you. Died lots of times, and had to use smoke bombs to almost cheat through it.

Echo some opinions here.
The sailing in WW was relaxing, I always sailed right past the mini-battles and just watched the sunrise/set in awe.
Valve have a huge problem with endings. HL1, the last few levels were downright terrible. And HL2? *shakes head* that could have been done so well.

Gosh, agreed with the speed bike level in BT... sucked :D
jimmi/etc: The sailing may well have been peaceful, but it was also a huge time sink. Plus, 99% of the time it involved you doing nothing but sit there and watch. Too me, that's not even gaming, that's mindless watching of repetition :D I thought the game was very fun, when I was playing. ;)

I think it was Dragon Warrior Monsters for Gameboy. I got to this one arena battle, but the three monsters would always cast death spells on me. The bad part it that I was MUCH stronger than them, so I would otherwise have easily beaten them. Also, I was so over-powered that leveling up was near impossible since the monsters in the area that was accessible would yield almost no experience points.
What was the library level of Halo...I've played it but don't know the title of any one level.
I also agree with LOZ:tOoT Water Temple. Although I had a lot less problems than my friends did with it...

THE BALL WIZARD! I think his name is. in Golden Sun 2, in Turtle Cave (I think the name is). Oh lord. He's impossible! I have the full set of 8 characters, all around level 50, all with super Djinn attacks and epic summons. I've spent about 4 hours trying to beat him. The final boss was easier, first attempt and I had it. But not this. This is unnatural.
Combat Hall on Metroid Prime Hunters. Everyone seems to pick it. And it's damn small, damn annoying.
I can't name a bad level from Doom or Duke Nukem. Beans!

every played Final Fantasy?
You talking just the original, or in general? :) Yes, I've played FF1-9 (Yes, all of the first 9).
I'm not saying other games haven't had horrid time sinks, they have. Even OoT had plenty of field-running. But during this the primary play mechanic was still in effect (battle system, etc.) and at night things would pop out of the ground for you to fight (and I had lots of fun with the battles system). Epona also made the traversing Hyrule Field a non-issue, to me.
WW, however, did not work like this as you know. You have to boat around a lot, a completely different play style then when you are on the ground. There are enemies occasionally which you have to take out with a ranged weapon, such as bow or bomb cannon. This was not something that fun for me, I'd skip them 90% of the time.
FF had those loathsome random battles, but then again, the battle system was the main play mechanic in FF, tiresome as it could get, at least there was something to do, and using the main gameplay principals at that! :)

Water Temple - Zelda Ocarina of Time
Don't know why, just frustrating raising and lowering the water, dumb metal boots, and 'shoot-the weird-arrows-at-the-sun-at-the-right-time-in-order-to-even-get-to-the-temple.... I don't know, just never liked it.

The Water Temple is the only temple I got stuck in, iirc. And that was simply because I had missed a switch at the top of the middle tower... I had been to the top but somehow didn't see it, so I was searching everywhere else but there since I thought I had already checked that area... ugh.
My fave was the Light Temple...

The 2nd mission from the end in Driver 2 for PS1.
Damn that mission. You have to chase down and wreck another guy's car in rush hour traffic on a small mountain road, without going over the cliff or blowing up your car or running out of time. I came so close to beating the game....and never got it.
I've probably logged over 15 hours just playing that mission....I've had the game for about 6-7 years now, and dust off my old PS1 to try the mission a couple more times.
One time I was 1 pixel of damage-meter-bar-thingy from destroying the other car when I wrapped my car around a fence post, which flung me over the cliff and into a minor fit of rage. :p

Gonna agree with the Max Pain dream sequences. Made me quit playing the game, too.
I really thought that Mike Tyson in Mike Tyson's Punch Out was pretty lame. I can understand wanting it to be HARD but I found it to be near impossible. I beat him once out of like 500 tries.
There were levels in Advance Wars 2 that I didn't like at all. I enjoyed the game overall, but there was a eventually a point where it was too time consuming, or felt overly repetitive.
Let's see, there's probably lots more, but I can't think of any right now. As an interesting side discussion, I would say that Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga is one of the few games that I felt had no bad parts at all. Anyone else have games they felt were "perfect"?

i like the game sonic heroes, except for one thing. it's casino and bingo levels are irritating. sometimes i spend 20 minuetes trying to get the characters out of the pinball machine, and in the bingo level, you have to restart the whole game if you miss one chip. it's really annoying... i like the action, normal levels like the first two levels. in the end i got an A for every single level for every single team, even the final, everything... it's something i'm proud of. :)
some levels from the megaman x series are annoying. a good example is burn rooster's level right after climbing down the platforms, and when you go down, you have to jump down and slide carefully down two walls padded with spikes. there's only a small space to jump on to, and a tiny miscalculation will blow the character up. i hate levels with spikes and pits that kill instantlly.
the thing i hate about some games is time limits. "beat these guys in 3 minuetes" "collect these in 10 minuetes" "clear the stage in 5 minuetes" it drives me crazy.

•*GT4's "catch the lead car in X laps" challenges. I cried myself to sleep on those.
•*Max Payne dream sequence...worse than the HL jumping puzzles!
•*HalfLife jumping puzzles in Xen. barf. who designed that level? it certainly wasn't the same set of people who did the previous 20 levels...
•*NFS: Porsche Unleased, the level where you "deliver" the boxster through the industrial park. Way too hard for so early in the game
•*FFX - Finishing the unique creatures in the Battle Arena
•*Zeliard - the final level. just getting to Jashin is nearly impossible, and then you have to kill the jerk.

Halo: The Library (That seems like a popular pick too)
Ninja Gaiden (Xbox version): The spot with those ghost fish. It required absolutely no skill, just luck in not getting hit too many times while crossing.
Max Payne: Oh, how I hated those dream sequences.
I actually enjoyed the water temple in LoZ: OoT; I thought it was well designed and very challenging. And, as a side note, I never knew that about Super Mario Bros. 2. I feel pretty good about myself now though, I beat the secret levels in Super Mario Bros. Deluxe for gameboy, which was apparently the Japanese version of Super Bros. 2, so I beat the game that Nintendo said was too hard for Americans when I was in eighth grade or so.

there's other parts in the game that pisses me off, like in the lobby scene when there's 3 guards with gernade launchers on floor level two and building level three, and they kill seconds after they see you. so, here's a little diagram...

The point wasn't that the levels were hard...they were just terrible levels that we hated. That was the original point of the thread. I actually like the levels that are hard (the Library for instance in Halo) just because it makes the game last longer. The dream sequences in Max Payne were just terrible crap that took too long and was just plain stupid.

If you count love/hate relationships:
The Shalebridge Cradle, from Thief: Deadly Shadows. Commonly considered one of the best designed levels in any game, but oh-my-good-God is it scary!
It's inside a large orphanage, which was converted into an insane asylum. What makes it so creepy are the noises you hear throughout. You don't actually see anything until you're well inside. And it's the only level to give me such a fright I jumped up and turned the console off!

Shadow of the Beast...erm...yes, which levels? All of them. ;) That game looked and sounded *so* pretty, but god, it was impossible. :(
Oooh, and the Water Temple in Ocarina. Not because it was particularly difficult, but because (this is very atypical of a Zelda game) as far as I could tell, it had a design flaw that allowed one to become stuck in an unrecoverable fashion, with no recourse but to start the game over. :( *le sigh* Not that it was *that* bad playing the whole game over! :o
Also, I have a love hate relationship with that level on SMB where you are on top of the bridge across the water and all the fish jump up at you? Erm...7-3, it seems. Must...resist...overwhelming urge...to...super speed all the way...through...level.... ;)
Erm...what's this (http://www.nintendo.com/gamemini?gameid=ad5a45fd-b1c2-403c-970a-9e3ffa35a5b8) about a new SMB? I might have to buy a DS. :o

Here are my choices:
Mission Impossible (N64) - Coming down through the ceiling to get the NOCS list.
Zelda 64 The Ocarina of Time (N64) - Water Temple. The fact that if you messed up, it ruined your game and you had to restart made it so horrible.
Worms Armaggedon (PC) - The Eiffel Tower level. It was one of the first, but it was so poorly made.
James Bond: The World is Not Enough (N64) - Awesome game, but the last level aboard the Victor-class SSN was a little hard... never actually finished that game.
Half-Life Opposing Force (PC) - Near the end when you have to go into the sewers to fight several spider-bots. I am not sure if it was the weapons I had ammo left for, but I could not finish it.
Half-Life Counter-Strike (PC) - I may get flamed for this, but it must be said. Aztec is the worst level in ANY game. It is horrible straightforward, and predictable, but I guess I am biased. For the first while when I played CS it was awesome, but then the level sets became: Aztec, Dust, Dust, Dust2, Aztec, Dust2, Aztec,Aztec,Aztec...
Goldeneye (N65) - Surface 2. WAAAAAY too much fog, and very boring.
Wolfenstein 3D (PC) - The level that was a grid with the insane number of white guards... way to confusing.
Halo 2 - The levels before you play as the Master-Chief in the council chamber after being sent by the parasite, in which you are playing as the Heretic Elite. They were boring, confusing, repetitive, and just annoying.
That is all that come to mind.
And the Library was not that bad!!!! :p

Ok, nobody will get this but...
In the Ecco the dolphin sequel Tides of Time, I was going through ok but then you get to this one level where you have to navigate through a maze in the air and you have to do it fast and I could never ever do it. It was the stupidest thing you've ever seen. This was on the Genesis by the way.

Yeah, I know MANY people who had to restart their game because of this. If you are going to do the water temple, even if you think you are above it, you really need to use the walkthrough.:o

Worms Armaggedon (PC) - The Eiffel Tower level. It was one of the first, but it was so poorly made.
Oh god yes. That was a nightmare. It was just so time consuming, felt like the difficulty curve had just all but spasmed out.
- the level in Kirby's Canvas curse when the witch changes and she becomes another boss. I have bad timing.
I found that boss impossible at first, but like most Japanese platform games, they get soooo much easier on the 2nd or 3rd go. I can race through that boss without getting hit once now. I even beat the Boss battle mode in Nightmare in Dreamland after I swore I could never do it. Gotta love their transcended game design.
One more for me to add; DM_overwatch on HL2. I swear it's campers paradise. I'm sick of being the only one to throw up exploding barrels to kill the damned rocket launcher guy. Everyone else is quite content to see him/her blow them up from on high. grrr. the complete opposite of DM_Lockdown where you cannot sit still for a second. best made level ever.

Shadow of the Beast...erm...yes, which levels? All of them. ;) That game looked and sounded *so* pretty, but god, it was impossible. :(
Amen to that. I can't quite figure out the design process for that. "Hey, I've got an idea, how about we make it so you have to beat the game without ever getting hit!"

And then add fifty million monsters so it's technically impossible! :o
Actually, too, though, the problem with that game was that after that first level, underground, which had some more platform-style exploration to it, it was just a beautiful and insanely hard side-scroller.
But amazingly beautiful. And great music too! :) Also I think it came with a free t-shirt. :o

The last dreamcast/ps2 version had a level with water orbs and paths in the air. Sure the graphics were amazing at the time, but man, was it a pain in the ass... In face, I thought the whole game was a pain. Coupled with the 360 degree movement, and you were in for a frustrating dizzying time.

I recently played Ocarina of Time again and realized how much I didn't like the water temple. I got stuck having to go to the top and raise the water level so I could shoot over to the boss. It took me about 2 hours of walking around to try to get back to the top to raise the water again. Such an infuriating level. The rest of the game kicks butt though
