Ok, I'm ready to buy and switch. Can anyone tell me how difficult it is to upgrade the internal DIMM? Does it void the warranty? How about installing the internal bluetooth module?
I'm ready, but I'm just battling paying the RAM ransom. $200 to go from stock 256Mb to 512MB single DIMM. Come on...
I'll change this myself if I can do it without voiding the warranty or breaking something.
Any info out there appreciated.

If you crack open the machine you will void the warranty.
Don't know where the Bluetooth module is on the iMacs, so I have no idea about it.
The customer installable parts are listed.

it says on the apple support site how to install ram on the so-dimm slot...which is very easy....however it explicilty says
Warning: Do not touch the screws on the bottom housing (Figure 4). Loosening these screws could cause the computer to overheat and damage internal components.
in order to reach the internal slot that is NOT user accessible...you have to remove these screws which will void the warranty and possibly cause heat problems (your computer will melt from the inside out)

Accessing the internal dimm voids the warrenty.
Apple has stated on its website that if you don't buy the bulitin bluetooth module with the computer, you'll ba able to use a USB adapter. This means if you want the internal one, oerder it with the computer.

anyone seen one of these babys taken apart? i sure would like to get a gander at that mobo and see what everything looks like inside including that memory slot. If anyone has a picture of this please post it. I also would suggest not to screw up your warranty for anyone who still has one.

The modem card has a yellow outline. This is a picture taken from a Service Guide and the picture is showing where the modem card is. Also, this is from the new 1 GHz iMac.
