View Full Version : American Idol robbed of its talent.

In a move that is sure to outrage many people watching American Idol, Frenchie Davis has been booted off of the show. Apparently 4 years ago she did some pictures for an online porn site featuring her naked. Fox decided to boot her on this ground. I for one am no longer watching the show.

Why would Fox(!) think that it has the right to make judgments about morality? Wouldn't a porn past actually make her more interesting to Fox viewers anyway?

I don't really like the idea of people calling and voting either. I'm sure there are some contestants who have tons of friends and get almost everyone in their hometown to vote for them. Theres one girl who got voted off who had a really deep, jazzy voice, who I thought was amazing. Oh well....what can you expect from Fox?

I dont really watch these reality shows, but I find this move interesting because Fox had a girl in the finals of the competition last year who used to be a stripper, then Joe Millionaire had posed for underwear ads, and one of the final girls of Joe Millionaire had been in some soft-core bondage films. heh, but porn got this girl booted eh? I guess thats where they draw the line.....

I had read that it was for a porn site that purportedly featured underage females on the site, which makes a big difference from just being a 'regular' porn site.

i do like the show, and i also liked frenchie, when i saw her first audition i thought she would win. she has a great voice and quite a personality. what i find funny is that people actually think that they have the say in who gets voted in or who gets cut. How can this show not be rigged up until the top 10? this is fox we're talking about, the same people who are bringing you the show "married by america." :) on a lighter note, if anyody saw it last night, ryan seacrest (the host) messed up when saying the phone number to call for the 2nd contestant , i think he left out a 7.

Hmm

This is absolutely the best thing that could happen to Frenchie. She's now more famous than she ever would have been otherwise.

That would make a difference I suppose -- I still think its crap though, even though I don't watch the show.

I mean me personally, I do porn shoots 4-5 times a week...

That's true, but now along with being known as "that one with the really great voice and personality," she'll be known as "that singer who posed nude for a porn site." while i can put this aside, i don't know about some record companies, who might not want this image associated with their company. i think this whole thing is ridiculous, we all make mistakes, and the circumstances in which she did it were perfectly understandable. and for fox, of all people to do this, grr, just kinda makes me mad.

Some probably won't, but plenty of them couldn't care less about their image, based on some of the stuff I've seen put out. What they care about is $money$ and now that there's so much publicity about this incident, there should be plenty of companies who can see the $money$ they can make from it.

As for Fox, this was just added publicity for them too. It's hard to know what's real and what's fake with them anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if they had all this planned from the start.

Frenchie was my girl. From the first moment I heard her voice, I know she could go all the way. That's probably y they yanked her off. B/c anyone that has heard her voice knows that she is 100 times better than anyone that's remained on the show. I agree with everyone that's said 2 keep ur on her. She's going 2 b huge. Unofficially, the Dixie Chicks (i know they're country, and she's not) told her that they have their own label and haven't signed anyone yet. And she also gave Clive Davis (founder of Arista Records and now J Records) and impromtu audition. I'm sure the record industry will b fighting 4 her. And as someone who works in music, I say it's about time the music industry have someone like her. KEEP ON ROCKIN FRENCHIE, WE LOVE U!!!!

ROCK ON!!!!!

Honestly, I think it's a weight thing.

Simon commented on the weight of one of the contestants this last week who was much smaller than Frenchie. Pop music is so cookie cutter that they wouldn't be able to handle a full-figured woman with some real singing talent.

Ah, for the days of Aretha Franklin...:)

I was suprised that Vanessa Olivarez got voted off. To me, she was one of the more talented and charismatic contestants.

Honestly, I think that scripted "trained monkey" line came across real bad and Fox screwed her over.

Clay is awesome, and it's going to be fun to watch him in the different genres.

I want Julia DeMato to go down in flames...and I think Carmen Rasmussen is way out of her league.

I sure don't. Obviously lots of you folks do, but these so-called reality shows are nonsense as far as I'm concerned. I just could care less about some sappy, goofy-looking character singing R&B or ballads and whether or not he/she makes a record deal, just so that they can then add their ultra-typical sound to the mass-market, cookie-cutter BS known as pop music.

Honestly, these shows seem to be made by people still in high school. "Are You Hot?" ??!!?? Oh my goodness. A new low. The survival things are silly, but at least there's an interesting challenge thing going on. These other ones are no different than the crap you see on Jerry Springer or Jenny Jones. And they're designed to appeal to same kind of mentality.

I like that Kimberly Caldwell chick. I think she has the talent,
as well as the figure. I like to style, and snazziness of Trenyce.
I hope Carmen Rasmusen and Julia DeMato get voted off. They
can't sing all that well. It is too bad that Vanessa got booted off,
she wasn't that good of a singer, but how well you sing isn't
everything in the competition. She had spirit, and looked like she
was having a lot of fun. She looked like a fun person.

I don't particularely like any of the contestants, and I wish there
was someone who really stood out. I am waiting for someone
like Nelly Furtado to be on the show. She has style, and a great
voice. I really like Nelly Furtado as a whole. Everyone on AI is
so plain. We need someone different. ;)

Kelly Clarkson are making a movie together...... oh boy. ;) :D

the show does not seem to have a lot to do with talent..ha

but star search has consistently great people

american idol seems to put bad people on quite often so simon can get his kicks and be hated, which ups the ratings

Ruben is really good. He has a really full voice.

Ricky I don't like so much though. He doesn't seem all that
talented, and not star material. He seems unproffesional to me.

American who? what? :p

I don't watch reality TV or anything like American Idol. For some reason, real life is nothing like reality TV for me. When I want to feel happy, I tune into Dr. Laura and am thankful that I don't have the problems that some of her callers do. When I'm really depressed, I turn on Jerry Springer or Maury and become really thankful for how good of a life mine is compared to some of those losers...

You don't have to wake up and immediately start warming up
to sing your song for judges? You don't like in a jungle, and
you're not forced to eat rats   ?

What a wierdo :o  :p ;) :D

dr l could get a caller who really does not have a problem, or who agrees with her...and she will still find a way to just skewer the caller

it's radio's form of an s and m torture fetish and dr l is the domanitrix:p

I've never watched one second of any reality show ever... until I caught the first episode of American Idol. I'm actually surprised, but I enjoy it. Before AI, I watched maybe, MAYBE 1/2 hour of prime-time a week.
The host should be shot because, well, he's game-showy. Over-all there's some good talent, but my picks are Reuben, Clay and maybe Trenyce.

I started watching American Idol a few weeks ago. I think that Clay is the best. It seems so natural for him to be up there singing.

I hope he wins.
