Ok, I'm planing to move to the US but I would like to discuss with you pro and cons:
Pros:
1. It is close to Venezuela
2. I know people in the US (many people).
3. I have oportunities to work legally
Cons:
1. There is a war comming up= terrorism.
2. The economic depression looks like is gonna increase.
Australia:
Pros:
1. It is in a galaxy far, far away.
2. I know just one person there that can host me (enough).
3. There are good jobs there.
4. No war or terrorism around.
Cons:
1. The voltage is 220.
2. It is far away from everything, my friends, etc. except Japan.
3. I may be moving with my girlfriend and I want to break up with her.
Throw your first thoughts.

Having never been to Australia and knowing very little about it, anything I say would be completelly ignorant.
The 'depression' in America is over stated. That's such a harsh term, its really not bad here at all. Its possible that I'm in a well diversified area, that has yet to feel a crunch.. but I see it only as a dowtime in the economy. It'll pick up soon.
I'm not worried about terrorism and only a few people I know talk about it with great dread. There's a threat, but we have to live our lives. We'll going on living and being happy... what is the alternative?
Regarding the Girlfriend.. break up with her now. That you're even thinking these thoughts means you shouldn't be with her. You don't want her making a big life decision (moving to another country) because she thinks your relationship is going to last. Sit her down and do it soon, before this nonsense gets worse.
Just my .02, but I think you'd like it in America.

yeah dont need to drag your girlfriend on a big life move and then break up with her. break up with her first... then move. dont create more problems for her.
the u.s. is not that bad. depends on what kind of work you want to get into i guess.
good luck.

Move the the US. More opportunities, and the so-call depression is about 20 times better than Europe. Only an average of 5% Unemployment, with 7.25% being the highest (Where as some European countries can be from 10% to 20%). Australia is a cool place, but far from the "beaten path". Also very few people speak Spanish there, in the US there is a large "latino" Population (I hate using that eufimism). Also, if you speak and interpert American (English), you should be a shoe-in for a job. Being Bi-lingual is great for most places, because of the large "latino" population.
BTW:
Actually the Voltage in Australia is 200/240 just like the US is 100/120. Basically its twice the power at a lower Hrz. Level. Just depends on who your talking to as to what number is quoted.

1. I do not care about the language in Australia, I really want to have my englist strait up.
2. About my girlfriend, it is a bit complicated, I may be thinking about something else better than here because of all the problems I have here in Venezuela because of the country it self. I know I'll be moving to NY and I'm gonna miss her, specially because girld in NY are not even a sad shadow of a venezuelan girl, I have been in NY for 6 months and in the US for 3 years, the best looking girls are in Arkansas and those places (I haven't been in the west coast too long neither).
I just had the option to go to Australia but I'm gonna take the chance in NY any way. As a VJ I think I have lots of oportunities there, I have a few good contacts already.
Thanx:)

I would never, ever go to Australia. You guys are too racist and ageist there. You send away cruise ships full of refugees unless they are white. It is a proven and well known fact you have the 10 most poisonous snakes there, most poisonous spiders, man eating lizards, and it ain't safe to go into the ocean because the waters are infested with tiger and great white sharks, and lethal jellyfish and many other dangerous creatures I can't even remember. Not to mention you are surrounded by a bunch of countries that hate western values and people that are on the verge of nuclear war.
Prostitution is legal, HIV and STDs are rampant in Australia. Drought and fires are ravaging the entire country too.
PBS had a special a few months about all the bad stuff down under. You can keep it. I'll just watch Crocodile Dundee movies. That is as close as I would ever want to get to Australia.

FYI Australia is one of the most multicultural and diverse countries. Australia has a very fair immigration policy and if you meet the criteria, black, white, yellow or any other colour for that matter then you are more than welcome. And I'm sure you send back more illegal immigrants to Mexico than we turn away.

I'd be more afraid of AMERICANS if I was you. You kill more of your own in single day then our DEADLY snakes, spiders and sharks do in an entire year. FACT !!!
Not to mention you are surrounded by a bunch of countries that hate western values and people that are on the verge of nuclear war.
They don't hate western values, they hate the values that ignorant Americans (a small minority) try and force onto them. And if they do hate Australians then it is only because our government support the US (most Australians don't). When was the last time a group of terrorists flew two 737's full of innocent victims into two buildings also full of innocent victims, killing thousands in Australia. Please remind me.
Prostitution is legal, HIV and STDs are rampant in Australia.
I am starting to think that you are the most incredibly stupid MAC user I've ever come across. Legalising prostitution makes it much safer. The sex workers have to have weekly medicals, they are not allowed to use any form of illegal drug and they have to practise safe sex, etc, etc.
Drought and fires are ravaging the entire country too.
The US looses more square miles of land to bush-fires in a year then Australia does. Fair enough it is fairly bad at the moment. But at least we don't have hurricanes, tornados and huge earthquakes. We haven't built huge cities on major fault lines that could move at any moment.
PBS had a special a few months about all the bad stuff down under. You can keep it. I'll just watch Crocodile Dundee movies. That is as close as I would ever want to get to Australia.
You need to take a long hard look at your own back paddock before you start criticising others. I've travelled all over the world and lived in many different countries. So until you have a better idea of what exists outside of your own a___hole than keep you mouth shut.

You know, messing with Aussie's is not the smartest thing in the world.
zoetropeuk said everything for me, so its kinda a bit hard to say anything about the post, but here goes anyway.
I know one fact...Americans know NOTHING about anyone but themselves. Your post, peter2002, just shows the fact that you guys are the biggest pig-headed nation of losers on this earth. Smell the roses would ya, you watched a DOCUMENTARY on a TV station that wants to earn money. Of course it is going to be sensationalized to the ************. That is TV. Prime example, 7 kids got buried in an avalanche in Canada and 6 people got killed in a train crash in Sydney. Funny thing that you guys would not have heard about it because a spacecraft fell out of the sky with 7 of your men on board. What about all the millions of people that have died from starvation and lack of water in that time period and after that event? Do you hear about them?
Think before you post! You have NO knowledge of Australia. If this country was so crap, we would be living somewhere else, but definetely not in a country that has been found guilty by the United Nations for terrorism and kills more innocent civilians a year than were killed on September 11.
You are a fool.

I have never been to America but I have heard of people making a lot of money there so if that is your dream go there. Of course there should be no shortage of things for a VJ to do in NY. Of course you may end up unemployed and homeless (or even dead from one of the millions of guns there) but at least you would have lived your dreams.
As for Australia, yes it is multicultural but it is also led by a right-wing government. Refugees are pawns of the policians, demonised to win an election and locked up in camps (located in the desert) to protect the general community. The enthousiastic support of Australia in the conflict with Iraq is very unpopular here with the main opposition party taking an anti-war stance. Of course Australia has no incentive to tow the UN line since it has criticised us in the past for the treatment of refugees and Aboriginals.
As for the lack of terrorism here, last year a nightclub full of Australian tourists was blown up in Bali. The days following the World Trade Centre attacks a couple of mosques were burned down and muslim schools & students were also attacked so you could say that terrorists do exist here all-ready. Last week the government also distributed terrorism information packs to every mailbox in the land. Sad state of affairs isn't it?

You've probably all noticed that I'm from New Zealand - a mere "hop-skip-and-a-jump" away from the land of Oz. New Zealanders and Australians have always had a very strong sporting rivallry throughout our short histories, so sticking up for them is not something that comes naturally. ;)
However...
After living in Sydney for 5 years, and then travelling the globe many times over - including the US a number of times - before settling in London, I can tell you without one hesitation that Australia has to be one of the most beautiful and unspoiled countries that I have ever had the privilege of visiting - and Sydney is perhaps THE most desirable city in the world.
Period.
It just so happens that it's where my wife and I plan to return to after we sell our house here in a few years - we have a 2 year old, and want him to have the best start in life that he possibly can get. The schools in Australia are infinitely better than some of those found in the UK - and from what I've read of Peter2002's post, those around his district in the US. Or, maybe he's just plain ignorant...
So, Peter2002 -
let's look at your country's track record, shall we?
*you jump in feet-first into wars without any regard for the international community
*HIV/AIDS is just as rife in the US (if not moreso, per capita) than in Australia - it is, after all, a Global epidemic...
*your human rights violations in the southern states continue to this day
*your schools have metal detectors to prevent weapons being brought in
*your citizens have the right to bear arms, and exercise that right on numerous occasions - with terrifying results
*most of what you learn is from the television - with its narrow-minded views playing to a narrow-minded audience
*you "line-dance" (i.e. you like both kinds of music - country and western...) ;)
So, before you push "play" on yet another Crocodile Dundee video, be sure to remember that not everything is how it is portrayed on the box. The Sydney Olympics should have shown you how advanced the country really is.
If we'd stereotyped Americans, we'd be left with an impression of a bunch of hillbillies - complete with shotguns, whittling, chewing on t'baccy and blowing into jars of moonshine with their 13 year-old wives (who are also their sisters...).
Never assume you know anything. Your assumptions usually rise up and bite you on the ass.

OMG, everyone shutup! Damn Peter, learn to verify what you are saying about SOMEONES COUNTRY before running your mouth! The Aussies are our allies, and friends, and have been for a long time. They have always fought with courage and pride in the wars in which we have fought together. We have strong trade with them, and wonderful, wonderful exchange of ideas.
Zoe, you do the same! Yea, so what that you have snakes right. So do we. But for real to say that we kill more of our own people daily, what kind of crap is that. Get over it.
Mac15. Stop the cheap ass shots at the southerns here that have done nothing on this thread. We are actually some of the most amazing people in the States. You should visit sometime. You will see. Go to New Orleans, or Atlanta.
Point is. We are on the same team in the world guys. Act like it. This got way off topic, and turned into a stupid ass arguement. Keep it on topic, and don't go around dissing each others countries. We all have problems, none is perfect, and each is unique.

Now, I think I'm going to the US. I would like to go to Australia but it is too far away and I would use all my budget just getting there.
I hate winter, I hate cold and I'm aware of the US big time but most of my friends are there.
I may end up in Australia in the near future, may be by the end of this year if I do not get stuck in Spain in the way there.
Let see, I have to talk with some one there yet to make my mind.

As an American, let me just say I do know A LOT about the outside world. We're not all ignorant like everyone likes to think. I've seen a lot of "facts" thrown about from each side in this thread that can be shot down faster than an Iraqi MiG.
So to my fellow ignorant Americans... shut up!

Oh Man...
Ok, First, I don't know who said we were at war. WE ARE NOT AT WAR. (yet)
Second, THE ECONOMY IS NOT THAT BAD. It is a slowdown. A recession. It happens. WE still have comparitively low unemployment, and a very high standard of living.
Third, I am SO SICK of people acting like we are a bunch of gun crazy hicks. May I remind you that we are a nation of almost 300 million people, and in a population that large, you will have criminals, but we are (for the most part) a highly diverse, tolerant, compassionate, prosperous nation.
Fourth, I can't stand Steve Irwin, or Paul Hogan.
Fifth, no wonder nobody flies jets into tall buildings in Austrailia. What would be worth attacking in youir "country".? The Sydney Opera? A koala? The Fosters brewery? Come on...

Q. Why do so many people want to live in the USA?
A. Because they figure it's the safest place to be when the USAAF wants to play with its new toys. After the Axis Of Evil has been dealt with the USA will turn its attentions to the Axis Of Surrender-Monkeys. If I were French, German or Belgian I'd be filling out my green card right now...

I was stating that this war is an inevitability: too much money has been spent moving men and materiel, and too many political favours have been called in, for the show to be cancelled.
I think that Tony Blair is acting with moral conviction. I haven't generally got much time for him - we voted him in on a social/redistributive ticket but the inequalities in British society have broadened during his term - but I've got a grudging admiration for him doing what he 'knows' to be the right thing, rather than being lead by public opinion (which is, broadly, one of opposition to the war).
I don't know what George W's motives are. The will of God? The presence of oil? The contracts for reconstruction? Expanding the market for GM cars, GM crops, Starbuck's and KFC? The US having turned up late for the first two world wars, he wants to make damn sure they're there in time for the next one?
But what I really, honestly can't understand is The Axis Of Evil: Iraq has a nasty leader who does nasty things, but wholly to Iraqis. He's dumped on Kurds, but that seems to be a regional hobby, even for NATO members. North Korea has a deified leader whose actions cause tremendous hardship for his people. Again, it would be nice if he 'left'. The same could be said of dozens of nations. Iran is, I believe, a comparatively stable and well-behaved nation that has ditched theocracy for democracy.
I can follow the argument that the Taliban and Al Quaida were closely linked, and that the invasion (liberation?) of Afghanistan was a necessary action. But how were these lucky Axis of Evil nations selected? A lottery? I don't know where GWB draws the line, but invading Iraq without the agreement of the UN seems *very* dangerous. Robert Bolt, Man For All Seasons, cutting down the law to reach the devil etc etc etc.
To conclude: I am in favour of the removal of Saddam, because I believe Iraq will be a much better place without him. But I think more nations have to be onside to give the removal moral legitimacy.
Um, rereading the above, I think I've possibly encapsulated the Will Of The People Of Europe. We want the nasty people to go away, but we don't want to be nasty to do it. And it's not surrender-monkeydom: we don't want the US to do anything nasty to do it, either.
Do the ends justify the means? War. Uh. What is it good for? It depends.
There, I cleared all that up for you. Next problem, please?

From my quick and dirty research on the internet it seems that almost 3 times as many people die in the US from snake bites per year than in OZ. So if you factor in the population difference you are 20 times more likely to be killed by a snake in OZ than the US.
But did you realise that you are 40 times more likely to die from a bee/wasp sting than a snake.
Anyway here are two interesting links:

That depends on where you live. Most of my friends are unemployed due to layoffs in the tech/media sector. One friend who made six figures at his last job just took a job as a $7.25/hr temporary bookstore clerk for the back to school textbook season.
Also, about 3,000 or so people died in my city in a terrorist attack, so I guess it can be a concern.
