500 mhz, 10 gig hard drive, 384 mb ram (640 max.)

...my friend wants to sell it to me for five hundred and it works really well and has almost never been used...i know, i am his tech

he also has a beige g3 tower, 300 mhz, 4.1 gig hard drive, and maxed out at 384 mb of ram...he is asking 150 dollars

If it has a combo drive, pretty good deal. Is it a 12" or 14"?

Really good deal. You can up the processor to G4 and up the HD for about $300 [eBay] and have a really nice machine for all but the most demanding stuff.

I guess I've been lucky with selling. Last November, I sold the exact same model with an original 10GB iPod for $1250, and a few weeks ago, I sold me 1GHz PB for $3,000.

Now, $500 seems average for a computer that once cost around $1,500. Apple's new aggressive pricing campaign is having an unfortunate affect on reselling; basically, you have until the next revision to unload in order to see a decent return.

I'm interested in the G3 if you aren't...put us in touch?

And I think that is a good deal on the ibook.

It's a good deal. If you look at the prices of the clamshell iBooks, they are going for that much on eBay, and I think the 500 Dual USB is a much better machine (if for nothing else the 1024x768 resolution).

My 2¢

it was the second one up in the ibook series with the dvd drive

the top of the line ibook then had the combo drive, which was available later

the screen is 12" and the 14" one did not come until a little later

and this machine has no applecare on it
