Alright folks,
The way I see it... if you've got a 12" ibook or powerbook and want to get anything out of it at all... you've got about two weeks to do so.
At that point, the new macbooks will start showing up in the refurb store at a 16 - 21% discount. Meaning, Joe Schmoe could buy a perfectly good macbook for anywhere from $868 to 923.
Think about it, if those sweet machines will be available for that cheap... why would they bother buying your old junky machine? ;) :) :p
This is where I come in. I need a nice, good looking machine that isn't going to break the bank... and I need it fast. I'm hitting the west coast next week for a two week tour of CA, OR, and WA. And I need a machine to take with me. I was hoping to be able to justify a new macbook... but well, its just not in the cards.
Let me know what you got, via PM prefered and a price idea. I'll be honest, I'm looking to buy soon.

Should have spexified a price range. :)
I'd like to stick in the $600 range... I can go higher but at that point the $1100 macbook gets closer and closer.
Check out iGary's thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=195840), that was a month ago for $650!
I've gotten some reasonable numbers that are higher than my number... and a few numbers that are way high. Thanks for the quick responses. I'll be responding to all at some point tomorrow.
:)
Zman - yes, vacationing from sacramento to seattle on a 2 week road trip. Shooting lots of photography.

My PM box was fulll and I was at a hotel last few nights that was dial up only (AGH!!). So today is my first chance to get back on.
Still looking... maybe I was way off on this one, but I'm really surprised at the number of "I got at last gen 12" pb... $1200?" emails I'm getting.
Am I wrong or is that just hugely unrealistic at this point?

I'm just dumb founded. For $24 more you could get a machine that would eat that thing for lunch. (http://www.macworld.com/2006/05/firstlooks/macbookbench/index.php)
I appreciate all the offers, please keep them coming but a white 1.83 macbook is looking more and more obvious.

For $24 more you also get a machine that still can't run photoshop or any other PPC app as well, is more heavy, doesn't last as long without a power outlet, possibly whines like a little girl, doesn't have discreet graphics memory, has some god awfully distracting glare ridden screen, etc...the point being that just because you think the new one is soooo much better...doesn't mean someone else might think his is worth his asking price...

I think if you look at the apple refurb store right now, and see the discounts (as much as 42%) on old powerbooks... it makes these huge asking prices look unrealistic. If you apply the same discount that Apple is applying to every other powerbook (no 12"ers in stock currently) to an old 1.5GHz 12" - it comes out to about a grand. Fresh from Apple.
To use phrases like "you think the new one is soooo much better" does kinda ignore the huge number of responses and ibook/pbook FS threads going on in the market place right now. It's not just me, everyone is selling right now... and we both know why.

Maybe but is the dude you buy from on ebay or a forum going to charge you sales tax? Yeah...I think not.

I'm just saying. I'm not selling mine...I'm perfectly happy with it just the way it is. I've got a DL Superdrive in mine...a 7200 RPM 80 Gb HD...and 1.5 Gb of RAM...it's got plenty of oomph to fulfill my needs right now...not to mention that I like the size just the way it is. I'm just saying...to me...the iBook market is just crazy right now...I am willing to bet though that if you let the hysteria of newness pass for a bit...there's going to be plenty of folks looking for a good ol' iBook running around.
