Can I transfer character files from xp to osx?

i got back into playing an old game, diablo 2, and because of intial video problems in osx, i started playing in windows.
no i figured out the osx video problem (open gl doesnt work), i am playing in osx. can i copy character files and trasfer them (via memory stick) from windows to osx and be able to use the character?

I guess I should have written my post differently. I did try it without success. The character is a no show. :(
