alright.. hopefully i wont get in trouble for this post since theres another website post. however i decided to make a different post rather then posting this question in someone elses topic that only delt with a certain aspect of websites.

i want to know if anyone knows any innovative webstites out there...primarily non flash ones. where is the innovation at on non flash websites in terms of design? anyone know? and the same with flash sites... where is the innovation at there? i want this to be sort of an educational thread on the subject if possible... but it doesnt have to be limited to such.

Krossfyter,

I recommend you to check www.moluv.com to see some wonderfull sites.

But my favorites are:

www.teknoel.com
www.2advanced.com
www.volvoxc90.se/
http://www.stxship.co.kr/stx_multi/index.htm
www.neostream.com

i selected these ones, since they have some outstanding ActionScript behind them. I hope you enjoy!

Go to any porn site, generally porn sites are at the cutting edge when it comes to implementing technology, I kid you not!

Others that push the theoretical are

www.jodi.org
www.soda.co.uk/
www.turux.org/

The new massive attack site is also pretty innovative IMHO.......

I worked on a site a couple of years ago, where the entire site was based on interactive DV......

the problem with most of these sites is that they are really hard to navigate around in. sure they may be innovative or look really cool but the purpose of most websites is to inform and these sites make it hard on users to find info.

but they sure do look purty and i wish i could do stuff like that.

But that's why we have Amazon.... :p :p :p

It's the whole Jakob Nielsen thing though really isn't it..... if all websites adhered to Jakobs strict, (actually 'anal' is probably a better term) approach, then all websites would look the same and the web would be a uninspiring place!!

i definitly agree with you on the Nielsen thing...he is quite anal, but does have some valid points.

but lots of times sites concentrate more on looking cool than being user friendly. if the goal is to look cool, then perfect. but its a site intended to inform people about a product, service, etc, etc than maybe the eye candy should come second.

in regards to some of the sites posted......i wish i could do that stuff. 2advanced.com is freaking amazing. i just wonder how that site would work on a dial up connection...

thanks guys... those are some rocking sites. what i do is soak all this ***** up and i then understand the level that everyones on and i go and create my own from that level.

can anyone offer and explaination or description as to why such and such a site is innovative or what the trend is now in innovative website design?

It's all about a leap of faith in my opinion... Not all sites are going to be completely easy to use straight off... but once you make that leap, suddenly it clicks!

Totally... it's like what, now I think it was David Carsons old lecturer said, when he first looked at DC's work, he didn't find it legible, but after returning to the said piece after some time, he couldn't understand why he'd originally came to that conclusion..... mayzin!
