SOLD thank you all! :)

Selling my ibook G4 - it's a 1.33 Ghz 12" with 1.5 GB of RAM, 40 GB hard drive, 32 MB Radeon 9550, all original boxes, manuals, and accessories, and warranty remaining until August '06.

Asking price is $800 plus shipping but I'll listen to offers. This price includes a 1 GB RAM upgrade from crucial.com that costs $168.61 as of 6/15/06 and a boxed retail copy of ilife '06 that costs $79 new. (The ibook came with ilife '05, and I bought this later, but it came preloaded on my macbook so I don't need it.)

The battery was replaced by Apple a couple of months ago, and the new one is higher capacity than a stock battery (4700 instead of 4400) and still has 99% of its original capacity. It lasts 4+ hours with the screen at full brightness and wireless on. One thing I should mention is that the indicator button on the bottom of the battery does not work. The battery came from Apple this way. The lights function normally when the battery is charging, but pushing the button does not make them light up.

This ibook has been repaired under warranty three times. The first time was for uneven brightness on the screen, the second was for a dead hard drive, and the third was for a creaky left wrist rest, strange trackpad noise, another bright spot on the screen, and physical damage done during the second repair. I'm happy to report that all of these repairs were entirely successful and the ibook is now in fantastic shape. :) There is no creakiness to it at all (which is better than it was new!), the interior casing and exterior top case are brand new and still shrink-wrapped in plastic, and the screen is brand new, brilliant, and perfect with no dead or stuck pixels or uneven brightness at all! The hard drive is also brand new and functions perfectly. It's so nice now that I almost don't want to sell it! (but what would I do with two laptops?) There is some scratching on the bottom of the case, but no other cosmetic damage of any kind that I can see.

Other standard things I probably don't need to mention: airport extreme and bluetooth built in, combo drive, comes with OS 10.4 Tiger.

I've been a member in good standing here for over three years, have done transactions with jackieonasses, limeibook86, i'm_to_hyper, and probably others I've forgotten. I also have 100% positive feedback on ebay under the name qcassidy352 including as the seller of several macs and ipods.

I take paypal, money orders, personal checks (which would have to clear first). I'd be very happy to do a local transaction (I'm in DC), and in that case cash would be fine as well. Pictures below. :)

here are some pictures... you can see the plastic wrap from applecare, and the scratches on the bottom are visible in the 4th pic.

Ok, there has been surprisingly little interest in this so far. I saw surprisingly because it's in fantastic shape and runs magnificently...

Am I asking too much? Or is it just the everyone in the world wants a macbook now? Yes, I am now asking for your opinions on my asking price! :p :)

Well, isn't that why you're selling? for a macbook? ;)

Honestly, I would put that thing on ebay. Just be sure to feature it, start bidding at 1 cent with NO RESERVE and include lots of pics and details. Have the computer running and make sure your ebay ID name is typed in something on the screen so people can see it is legit.

I did this with a black macbook I just sold (had whine and some mooing but since it was within apple spec and deemed normal, I sold it on ebay instead of taking a restocking hit). The macbook, like your ibook, had been upgraded to 1GB of ram. It sold on ebay for $1635... after a 1 cent starting bid. I think you will have much better luck doing that than getting a good deal here.

Also willing to sell without ilife '06 and/or without the extra RAM. How about take $30 off for ilife and $100 off for the RAM? So what we're looking at is:

$800 plus shipping for everything.
$770 plus shipping with no ilife '06 (still has '05)
$700 plus shipping with ilife '06 and the base 512 RAM
$670 plus shipping with no ilife '06 or extra RAM

These prices seem very reasonable to me... am I wrong?

I'm trying really hard not to put this on ebay, but it'll be headed there tonight...

Aim low. The Macbooks killed the values on all PPC Macs :(

Yeah, I know that, but I don't know how much lower I can go before I just say screw it and keep this beauty as a backup. In which case I'd probably sell ilife and the RAM separately, pick up $150 or so, and have a decent ibook to use in case my macbook ever goes screwy.

As I said, I'll listen to offers though.

iBooks are going for about $700 on eBay. On these forums, I wouldn't hope for more than $600.

Sadly, the RAM adds little to no value to the machine. You're better off most likely parting it out and just selling the stock iBook.

Well, sadly, the intel move has killed the PPC market. Even the Intel market.

Example.
My 1.83 MacBook Pro week 12
Was 1999 brand new.
Apple has them at $1599 refurbed. CRAZY!
$400 discount! Can you believe that!

Apple machines never depreciated like that. Now, thanks to the move to intel, we are all going to start loosing move on our macs than before.

This will be depressing.

Refurbed. 1 Year warranty. Just doent have the ram. If you change your mind about the offer I sent you, let me know.

Sadly, the RAM adds little to no value to the machine.

I know you're right... and yet I'm not sure why. Everyone and their mother adds RAM after buying, and usually pays full retail from a 3rd party (such as crucial, owc, kingston, etc.) to do it. And yet when buying used, somehow the extra RAM, which they're probably going to buy themselves later, doesn't do anything for the value. :(

backtothemac, I'm not saying no to your offer; I just have to gauge interest in the other pieces to see what my total recovery would be.

I mostly bought the macbook because of minor annoyances with the ibook, but apple fixed all that. Now it's so nice and close to new condition that I'd almost just rather get the much higher price for the macbook and go back to the ibook myself. :-/

If you do part it out, i'd buy your ram from you.

Let me know what you decide.

now on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=ADME:L:LCA:US:31&item=130000287843) but I'm still quite happy to sell here if people want to continue making offers.

Just to be clear, I am willing to part it out, but only if I can end up getting at least *near* my total asking price ($800 for everything).

SOLD Thanks to everyone who expressed interest!
