hi all,

i havent played a computer game in over 10 years, but i will be travelling more with my laptop this summer, and thought it might be fun to give it another try. (and i turn 30 this summer as well...)

when young, i used to play all the usual NES games a ton, as well as Might&Magic, Ultima, etc. Now i still play alot of online board games, but no real "computer games".

What I am wondering, is if there is a particularly good game that doesn't need massive graphics power (i am on a mac, after all (.867ghz tibook)) nor a constant internet connection. something that i have missed and would be able to figure out, now that my game intution is atrophied and outdated.

i appreciate any suggestions you may have,

cheers,

I just beat Duke Nukem 1 using DOSBOX on my powerbook. That's a quality game. DOSBOX is free and episode 1 of DN1 is free, so give it a try. ^__^

mac games... first thing that comes to mind is oregon trail :P

id say sim city, roller coaster tycoon, the sims are good starts if you're into those types of games.

Try here (http://mac.the-underdogs.info/). A word of warning though: It may not be legal to download the game, depending on whether the copyright holder has decided to make it free or not. You'll need to do your own research.

you can only play the old (original versions) of the oregon trail if you run classic. If not, you have to settle for the newest version I think.

Get a GBA emu (I use Boycott Advance), and play some Sonic! That'll keep you occupied for hours :D

I think Panther already had classic installed. Check to see if classic is listed in System Preferences under "system."

If it's not, check your install disks to see which one lists Classic and use it to install.

Diablo II is a bit complicated, esp. for a n00b, but the original is all killer.

Quake 3 should run beautifully. :)

Neverwinter Nights will run well if you have a decent video card (32MB or more).

Get a DS.

Get a GBA emu (I use Boycott Advance), and play some Sonic!

Rather than breaking the law and stealing the game illegally, get a GBA SP or a DS and buy the game play it using that.

Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion

Easy to pick up. Very deep gameplay. Action oriented if you want it to be, with tons of possibilities and very good "bang for your buck." :D

Otherwise, get an XBOX 360 and get Geometry Wars.

And he said "travelling with his laptop" ;) No mention of wanting to take a portable with him, and certainly not a 360 (the main unit's OK, but the PSU'll kill you)

While it's still technically illegal (transferring backups is illegal), I wouldn't fault you for it; but you're encouraging him to download the game he doesn't own.

I have to agree with Patmian212's suggestions, try Civ 2 and Civ 3 Complete- they are both great games. :)
