Macrumors.com new sections (sugestions).

What new sections would you add to the site?

I have been "surfing" the net and finding several other forums with the same design as MR but the way they are orgainize is very strange and not that parctical.

Now, I have seen we are writting a lot about PC's and I wonder if there should be a section juts for it or for Apple peripherals like the Air Port.

That is just to give some ideas but: What sections would you add if there is any you would consider?

i would love to see a more adult-oriented forum where the posts aren't filtered and topics don't have to be kid-friendly. but i know there's no way it would work, even if the technical aspects did it'd just turn into a MacPorn forum.

ah, the joys of having a younger crowd hanging around... :rolleyes: :D

As for other topics, I'd love to see a more creative forum, but I don't know if there are enough members out to keep it going. And there are so many other sites that cater to that sort of thing.

I don't think we keep it decent for the kids. they're the dirtiest ones, often. I think that, within the bounds of this site already, there is an allowance in some sections for a certain level of crudeness that is at best very funny and at worst annoyingly off color (see the geek thread, poop thread, so on). i don't see the point of an adult section, then, as it just inevitably leads to some kind of porno discussion. and what's the point of literally using the censored words? you get the same effect from censoring them yourself. everyone knows what you mean, and if they don't, it's probably a good thing.

I think the Community section has turned into the Sick & Twisted Pleasures section ever since eyelikeart started the *Official Poop Thread*, it's all gone downhill from there.

last i checked there were some "babealicious" threads started by some guys here. so because that's "straight" it's ok? pathetic :rolleyes:

that's not to say i think things should be overly dirty. this is a mac site. and as such people will not mind if their child comes here.. they can't stop it. so why not be considerate? it is true though that the younger folks are the ones being scummy anyways. (see the above listed threads). while censorship isn't called for in my opinion, a little more respect for the site's reputation and members wouldn't hurt.


i agree there is a good place for a creative forum. i don't think it matters too much if it's not heavily used, it would certainly allow for people to post works in progress or done stuff, and get help specifically, rather than such a general range of help topics.

and would be a good place for things like tutorials and such.

I think that the sections are divided up pretty good. I think that it was a good idea to make a separate political sub-forum.

THIS would be so cool. you would need a heck of a lot more space though. i go to deskmod.com, myself.

even though i dislike them, this would be a good place for those konfabulator "widgets" too. not worthy of a section, but hey.

definitely digging an art section though. we'd have to cap the upload size at 500-750 KB though. i think it could work. i'd love getting feedback on stuff from you guys.

There was some talk on /. awhile back about ideas for a new internet-based music rating system, maybe MR could have a section where you could post links to sites of artists that you like so that everyone could get a taste, or am I completely off on this?

this is ideal. spreading this around to many threads, that is.

i think "arts" would be OK... but i think it fits in community. whereas our own "creative" stuff could be a good fit. it wouldn't necessary take up space... you can link stuff to other sites where you host images/movies. and then get the feedback that way. also give tips and tricks with various software (audio, video, PS, etc.)

i think it'd be cool.

sure, though probably not so extensive. deviant art is such an incredible place, though i have never seen a place to top breedart. but deviant art rocks! the girl i took to prom last year ("just friends"/never talk anymore because we have no classes together :() has a section on dev art here.
