View Full Version : World of Warcraft incredibly laggy on MacBook Pro?
Max on Macs

Hi there,
World of Warcraft is incredibly laggy on my MacBook Pro. Now I have a gaaming friend who has a Radeon X1600 XT 256MB and he doesn't have issues (he uss a PC, not sure if the PC version of World of Warcraft is better?) and the Core Duo is a very fast chip. I know World of Warcraft uses the Internet to play, but we have 1Mbit proband here and it's no better at school where they have 10Mbit connection.
Any ideas?

Is it lag or slowdown you're experiencing?
A 1meg connection is plenty fast enough, but you might need some more ram - definitely if you only have 512. I run WoW on a G5 iMac with 1gig of ram and I can get a lot of slowdown in busy areas - I avoid the auction house in Ironforge if I can help it. I have friends with varying setups and the ones with 1.5gig or more seem to be have zero slowdown, even when it gets busy.

Yeah, don't forget how bad WoW gets during high traffic periods. I run it on a 1.67 mhz G4 POWERbook (remember those?) and it's fine. I have 1.5gigs of ram and the 128 ATI card.

dont try playing WoW on machines which have less than 1GB of RAM. PC or Mac, doesnt matter, WoW doesnt give decent performance under 1GB RAM.
MacBook Pro, on the other hand, is a superb machine.. Should work absolutely stunning on a MBP which has 1 or 2GBs of RAM.

Off topic, but what connection speed is recommended, including the upload?

My iBook handles it fine outside of cities with 768 RAM with graphical setting almost all on low due to the bad gfrx.

Try lowering the settings- otherwise maybe your connection is slow?

I ran it with 768mb on my Rev. B and had no problems, it defined perfection.
Max on Macs, Did you join a heavily populated realm? Also, sometimes mine would slow down (would hardly call it lag though) when my realm was experiencing problems.

Even on my PC I had problems with it at 1GB of RAM. 1.5GB seemed to solve all my probs.
