My PB (see sig) has a damaged screen so it can only be used with an external monitor or TV (I have all the connecting cables). I'd rather buy a MB or MBP but would like to get some value form the PB.

Ideally I would like to swap it for a desktop PC that I could install Windows 2003 server (and ultimately Citrix as that is my job). Do you think anyone would be tempted to swap the PB (see sig) for a PC with the following minimum specs

1ghz processor
512mb RAM
100gb HD
NIC

Would that be a fair swap or am I under selling the PB? I would expect the seller to ship the PC and I would ship the PB in the original Apple box.

could you do cash + trade for my pc:

athlon 64 3000+ socket 939
768MB ram (i have one 512 stick and two 256's, if you got another 512 for like 25 quid it would take it to 1.5GB)
120GB HD in a hot swap 5.25" caddy
DVD drive (read only, i have a burner but would rather keep it)
550w psu.
the mobo is good and has two 1 Gbit ethernet ports and firewire 400/800.

the graphics card is an agp x800XT but it's a tad overkill unless you'd like it, i could get a more suitable server gpu

as i live in london we could do this face to face, shipping on giant pc's is expencive.

EDIT: it's dead quiet, i replaced all the fans apart from a two silent case fans.

oh and i have a crappy 15" CRT if you want it at no extra charge, 15" 1024x768 affair.

If I buy a new MB or MBP, like you, I will be poor!!

That sounds like a fair swap to me, are you ok with it?

But I'm afraid this is only a feeler, it won't be an FS until I buy a replacement. I just wanted to get some ideas. If there was no interest I'd ebay the PB. I doubt I'd get much for it and would prefer my PB "goes to a good home" :)

can you at least make some kind of offer with or without the graphics card (if without i'll find a geforce 3 or something) i may refuse i may not but i wont hold you to it.

as for a "good home" i was going to fix it up as i have a spare 12" pb screen (has a small black mark thing in the bottom right corner) and have of my friends/family use it (i know many in need)

How on earth have you ended up with a spare screen? I was under the impression that they are £400+

I really wouldn't want to spend any extra money on this at all. As I said, spending the best part of a grand on a new laptop is all my "pocket money" gone for some time.

i replaced my biology teachers lcd in his pb because that black spot pissed him off, my payment was the screen, you can get a replacement screen on ebay for like 90 quid if you get one from america, though i probably just killed the trade...

Yes and no.

I was tempted to fix it up myself but was worried that it would be damaged in transit from an ebayer in the US. It also seems like a pain to fix. I didn't know they were that cheap though.

However, I have other reasons for buying a new laptop. Boot Camp, iSight, Super Drive and just generally newer and faster.
