Disk copy won't let me make images from CDs

Ever since I received my dual 867 MDD G4 i've been unable to get Disk Copy to make a disk image of a CD.

If I choose File > New > Image from Device, the entry for ATA CD is greyed-out.

iTunes burns disks fine, but I need a better solution so that I can quickly copy and distribute my band's CDs in their original format (not MP3). It would also be nice to be able to back up CD-ROMs.

Any ideas anyone?

Try using DropDMG.app, I like it, it just makes things simpler and may solve your problem.

Still, why would Disk Copy not be working?

Possibly permissions errors, possibly a bug, who knows right now. I have not seen this before.. so it is hard to say what could cause it.

I've repaired permissions many times, hoping that it might make a difference.

But, as I say, I couldn't create a disk image from day one of owning this machine (about 2 .5 months ago)
