I've heard a lot of news and rumors in the past week concerning
Square-Enix's commitment to Nintendo.

Square-Enix characters in upcoming Mario Hoops 3 on 3

Square-Enix is developing Nintendo's upcomming basketball
game. Looks like they are including characters from their
popular Final Fantasy series in the game. Notably a Ninja, a
White Mage, Black Mage, a Cactuar and a Moogle. More to
come? I can't read japanese. :( too bad, I would have loved to
know the characters' special shots.

Dragon Quest IX to be Wii exclusive?

*RUMOR* Dragon Quest IX a Wii exclusive? *UPDATE*

Reader JasonMCG sent me an email with a juicy little rumor.
The buzz going around is that in the newest issue of EGM to
hit magazine stands, a staff writer by the name of
Quarterman states that Dragon Quest IX will be a Wii
exclusive. That is it, that is all the info I have received right
now. Looks like we will all have to do some hunting for this
issue! Does anyone have a subscription to EGM, and if you
do, can you confirm this? Keep in mind, this information
could be posted in the Rumors section of EGM as well, we
just aren’t sure right now.

*UPDATE* The rumors are true! Well what I should say is
that the above info is indeed in EGM, but it is posted in the
rumors section. Below are all the Nintendo rumors from the
issue. Huge thanks to NSider for the heads up.

This could have a huge impact on the Japanese market.
(PS3 vs Wii) Dragon Quest is huge in Japan. (More popular
than Final Fantasy?)

Many Square-Enix games in development exclusivley for Nintendo platforms

- Earthbound (Mother) compilation (Rumored)[DS]
- MMO Mana game (Rumored) [Wii]
- Children of Mana [DS]
- Dragon Quest DS Joker [DS]
- Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime [DS]
- Dragon Quest IX (Rumored) [Wii]
- Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors [Wii]
- Finbal Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers [Wii]
- Finbal Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates[DS]
- Finbal Fantasy III [DS]

(this list doesn't iclude the Japan only releases or the GBA ports)

Better commitment from Square-Enix to Nintendo is good
news to me because, even though I'm a big Playstation fan,
I probably won't be purchasing the PS3 until the first
price drop. The PS3 is sweet but expensive. Plus, it looks
like the Wii willbe getting more RPGs than the Gamecube did.

I really hope so, I love them both. Pity no Wi-Fi on Mario Hoops though :(

Square must know that Nintendo are onto a winner? I mean they left the DS alone until it skyrocketed, they barely touched the Cube. Square go where the money is, where most games will get sold.
Though I suppose using Squares reason for moving to the PS1 (they wanted to try out new tech) still stands if they want to move to DS/Wii. what with the new ways to control. Though how does a turn based RPG need any new form of control?

though only up until some years ago Square have been pretty much Sony only. Could some contract have expired? There just seemed to be an explosion, Crystal Chronicles, GBA ports, DS remakes, another GBA port, all these Wii announcements. Somethings going on :)

Fair enough. I'll correct my post.

I love Dragon Quest VIII on the PS2. Graphics look very good is anime style, cell shaded, Widescreen. I wouldn't mind if they kept the same style for DQIX.

no Sony screwed them by discontinuing support for the hard drive which was required for final fantasy (it screwed up sales big time) and making it not work with the redesigned ps2.

Very nice. This gives a better possibility for Square-Enix characters in SSBB. Cloud VS Link - The Ultimate battle. Of course I'd pick Link, but there are a lot of FFVII fanboys.

OMG...Ocarina vs. FFVII...I could finally have that Link/Cloud deathmatch to see who the best RPG hero is and ultimately which is the best game!

I want Cloud and Sora playable in Super Smash Bros Brawl, with Sephiroth a la Kingdom Hearts as a secret ultra-hard last boss, complete with ten foot long sword and teleportation :)
