Has anyone here ever read or is reading the Left Behind series by Tim Lahaye and Jerry Jenkins. I am and I have to say that it is just AWESOME!!! I am on the 5th book. These books are so good that I read the 3rd and 4th books in just 5 days; I read the entire 4th book yesterday! I was so excited, I purchased books 5-8 the same day! :D
Anyone who hasn't read these books should, and you can get them at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=books&field-keywords=Left%20Behind&search-type=ss&bq=1/104-2179716-2778364) for $10.49 each with FREE Super Saver shipping on orders of $25 or more! Though I'm not sure if it's true or not, but a relative of mine told me you can also get them at Sam's Club for $7/piece plus tax.
If you have read these books what do you think about them? Do you actually believe in the Rapture? I do! There are passages in the Bible that refer to it. Question: If you are not a saint and the rapture does occur in your lifetime, will you be convinced that there is a God? If not then what would convince you?
By the way, if you don't want to get left behind I suggest you click here (http://www.leftbehind.com/seekgod/) and find out how not to get left behind. But save this link (http://www.leftbehind.com/seekgod/) in your bookmarks, in case you do get left behind; you never know it might come in handy later. Don't know about you, but I'd rather be on the safe side. ;)

Those books read like the Harry Potter series - quickly. I only
read the first one, which I thought was okay. My sisters and my
mom tore through them, and they aren't big readers like I am.
They prefer to take books slowly but they read about 3 per week
till there were no more to read. Very interesting thing to write
a book on. They are very interesting books, but I thought they
could have been written better. They are still good though.

My mom's really into them for some reason, I've never had any intrest though.

i was a bible scholar some years back and went to bible college and these books have been on my list to read
so many people, religious and non-religious alike, seem to love these novels
i do not believe in the rapture, but that won't really change my view of a novel if it is written well...i am not into horror novels or horror movies (or fiction for that matter) but one of my all time favorite books and movies is "christine" by stephen king

I thought the movie could have been done better. It was like the
books - mediocre, but interesting. Not bad at all. IMOP.

are they meant to be read in order or are they all stand alone books in their own right?

What would y'all do if the rapture occured (assuming God exists
and he would do something like this) and you were 'left behind' -
what would you do?

g/f here.......
over last summer i spent three days of my life going through those books....bible in one hand book in the other. (i had to compare) AMAZING story.....and it was not uncommon to walk by my room as I finished a book to see it being thrown across the room as i ran to find the next one.......
Those books were the first piece of christian fiction i have ever seen that had enthralled me without preaching at me.......then again one could concider scaring the crap out of you preaching, but then again I am not all that scared.....
I recommend these to anyone no matter what religious affiliation.......they're better than crack.....um...ya.

I was suprised that I didn't throw up reading the first one.
Usually christian writings (including the bible) irk me. ;)

I watched the first two movies and thought they were great. I got to see and meet Kirk Cameron when he was here in Erie at Kingdom Bound by the Bay....he is so cool! I wish I wasn't unemployed because I would get every book of the Left Behind Series. I already have a ton of books though.....I love to get the Billy Graham free offer books every month! My fiancee' and I go to the Left Behind movies as a date......it's great for us.

Good question.
If you beleive in the rapture probably wouldn't matter since you wouldn't be here. I think it's an interesting question how many people would beleive that this actually happened and change their faith or even develop one?

The Left Behind books are very easy reads, ones that drive you to read more and more at a very fast pace. I did find the quality of writing to be poor, however, while the story itself was very good. You know what I mean?
As far as theologoical correctness, I hate to tell you this, but these books are way off. I'm no theologian, but I do conside myself well-versed in such things. Check out this link.

The dilemma I face is that while I do seriously disagree with the "Left Behind" authors' views of the apocalypse (yet I do believe very much in the apocalypse), I am happy that people are reading these books rather than Harry Potter or other trash. Perhaps they should stick to Tolkien, but I digress.

Does this mean that Tolkien is or isn't trash in your opinion?

If you like questioning books that don't get bogged down in heavy weight sludge, I recommend Phillip Pullman - His Dark Materials. This is a trilogy, Northern Lights, Subtle Knife and Amber Spy Glass. They really got the Christian Churches upset and all with a stoty intended for children. This is a pretty dark story, scarey enough for your anyones imagination to fill in the gaps, like the older you get the more frightening it can appear.
Anyway, thought I'd give you a quality alternative, just in case anyone was tempted to read the ****e that is Harry Potter.

I'm gunna digress right along with you ;).
Why would anyone want to read songs every other page, and
then paragraphs ahout the lineage of the kings of mordor, etc,
etc, etc... The LOTR series are the most boring books I have
ever read. JRR Tolkien has a nack for adding in useless facts,
and never getting around to the story. Well, I know I am in
a major minority, with most people loving LOTR, but they are
just too boring in my eye. :( ;)

Well, they don't suck. THey just suck compared to the writings
of Terry Goodkind, and extremely talented authors like him. ;)

Whoa there! To anybody who thought otherwise, I DO like Tolkien. In fact, I'm about to go back to watching my Super Duper Special Collector's Edition (or whatever it's called - the extended version one) Lord of the Rings DVD right now. And yes, I've read all his books, some 4 or 5 times.

I'm with y'all here. I've tried to get through the LOTR series 3 different times now and I just get bored every time. And I mean, I should be the core audience for these books - I used to be an avid reader of fantasy and sci-fi books.
For fantasy books, the series I've enjoyed the most is Raymond E. Feist's Riftwar Saga.

I'll give rift war a try. After I finish the Dragon Price series by
Melanie Rawn, and the Rhapsody trilogy by Elizabeth Haydon.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the LOTR trilogy is
boring as hell. ;)

i am not into the fantasy stuff, but i give the first lord of the rings 3 1/2 stars out of five stars and the first harry potter 4 stars
i have not seen the second of each of those, but i heard, from some, that they are as good as the first ones...so it gives me something to look forward to

Are you rating the movies? Because LOTR (the movies) are so
much better than the Harry Potter movies. The books are a
different story. But there is pretty much no argument on the
movies - LOTR is better.

they are both excellent movies and i would definitely see them again
a movie i would give 4 1/2 stars to is the first star wars or star trek 4
my five star movie list is the english patient, henry and june, red/white/blue, and a few others...all chick flicks

Now you're talking about the 4th episode of starwars and not the trash with jar jar. As far as star trek the 4th one no where compared to wrath of khan.
though I'd have to beleive that LOTR was better both as a book and a movie than harry potter. Made you think a little more. Though harry potter was very enjoyable both the books and the movie.
I do have to give it to you haven't heard anyone mention the red whit and blue series in awhile.

I am reading the series now....Left Behind. They are great books. The authors are biblical scholars I believe and have taken a difficult book to understand...Revelations...and made a modern day fictional account of it. I encourage people to read Revelations before reading the series though. I also encourage people to read John from start to finish...an amazing account of the life of Jesus for believers and non believers alike.
By the way...I am a believer.
Enjoy!!
