Well after the great SaintsRow blessed marketplace at the beginning of the week. We are doubly blessed as Dead Rising now makes it way onto the marketplace demos....
Just over 1gb, but loving EVERY SECOND of it...... A 'killer' 360 game indeeeeeeeeddy :D :D :D

I downloaded it and although the graphics are better than I imagined, the game itself seems like it will get repetitive...
In regards to Saint's Row, I'm pretty impressed with its demo but I'm more than confident that GTA 4 will blow it right out of the water.

Downloading now. As I have already said elsewhere, this looks way too much like State Of Emergency, which stunk, for my tastes. But I'll judge after I play it.

I'm sure GTA 4 will, BUT were talking another 14 months for that to be released, so SaintsRow is a perfect time filler for that.
Dead Rising demo is awesome, yeah the graphics truly are amazing and the anti aliasing / filters and all the other good stuff is really tight.
As for repetative, yeah but I dont imagine this game was meant for 7 hour marathons. More 20-30 minute sessions here and there, and in that context it should avoid being too repetative. But one thing is for sure, its a quadrillion times more entertaining than State Of Emergency....

no bother, but be warned.....
Much like a teaser trailer is to a real movie trailer...
This demo is like a teaser demo, it gives you the barest glimpse of what you can do and leaves you slightly disspointed, because yout hungry for more than the demo gives..
All the good weapons are not here, basically a few shops and stray anywhere else its cutscene and demo over..

Yeah I imagine theres a shed more code here than just the demo section but it's all locked out, much like how you can get past the demo fencing in saints row and see the big city (though no missions and stuff).

The Dead Rising demo is a lot of fun, and it's just the most basic gameplay. What's in the demo could get boring, but hopefully the picture taking, hostage saving, and story will make the overall experience even better. That said, even if it's just zombie killing, I'll be buying it. Killing zombies is just too fun.
I find myself playing the Saint's Row demo constantly... getting outside the demo area, getting the AK, then just killing. The targeting system is so much better than GTA, I hope Rockstar finally gets the idea that people like actually aiming at things...it's so satisfying to see a gang member driving up in his stupid little car, spraying bullets, and taking him out from 50 feet away while he's still in the driver's seat...not because my gun magically aimed at him, but because I did.:D
I thought the horrible v-sync tearing might be a deal-killer for me, but the gameplay is just great. Hopefully the final game will address the graphical glitches.

This is a great idea for a game, I love the fact that you can use all the goofy stuff you might find in a mall in various ways to battle zombies. But I don't understand why they didn't get a Dawn of the Dead license for this. I mean, come on, people fighting zombies trapped in a mall? It basically is DotD.

Aug 5, 2006, 06:59 PM
I don't like it. Any time your about to do something fun, the Demo ends, you go outside, game over, go to the movies, game over, try to go to another section of the mall, game over, walk around too long, or if you get eaten by too many zombies, game over :p
For a 1015 MB download, you would expect quite a bit more than 15 minutes of aimless walking and clunkey controls. I'll save my money for something better i.e. Saints Row  , Enchanted Arms :) , Madden NFL '07 Hall of Fame Edition  , or Ninety-Nine Nights :D

Yeah as we all said the demo is a teaser, just like those teaser trailers at the cinema.
It gives you the barest idea/glimpse and then depending where you go a different climactic story cutscene to tease you into buying the final product.
THIS IS NOT the final game, so to grumble at a teaser for being a tease is really ??????
The size has nothing to do with it, I imagine there is a shed more code in the demo, but is all locked out, but hey it was FREE, you didnt have to pay for it so whats the big deal? So it took a bit longer to download, what would you have prefered them to say, "sod off your having NO demo at all" ???
If they havent optimised the demo - which by the way is the same as the E3 demo (so bare in mind this is a few MONTHS old), that's because they were busy working on the final product.
:) :) :)
99 Nights demo is far more indicative of the final game (I have the japanese release) on the other hand, pure monotony.
No chainsaw, driving sections, minigames, lawnmower, rescuing hostages, in this game to at least add a spec of variety to the missions....
tap X, tap y build up orbs, press A..... repeat repeat repeat.... aghhhhhh
Oh you've unlocked a new character to play through the story mode, and they control very differently, they
tap y, tap x, build up orbs, and press A...... see the first bit is very different ;)

The worst time for demos is when you get games like NFS, which put all the good stuff into the demo, thus fooling you into thinking that the final game is like that

For those who haven't found this out yet, if you go top the end of the mall where there's a small diner, go behind the counter and pick up the frying pan. Turn around while holding the frying pan, and press B by the stove. Let the pan sit there for about 20 seconds. You will see it turn red with heat.
Press and hold the X button when attacking to fry some zombie face off!

Go to the eatery UPSTAIRS. Go near the counter, and the first window beside it. Look down, you should see an orange overhang underneath the window. Jump out on to it. Bickety bam! you got yourself a sword. It doesn't last long, so travel toward the movie theater and start slicing as much as you can.

Ready for this??
....So after my dial up moaning the other night, my broadband was finally reactivated tonight.
I headed right to the marketplace and began the download, after what felt like a lifetime, the download finished
I went to Demo's on blades, selected the shiny new demo...CRASH
the machine froze up.
no big deal, I just powered it off, muttered and powered it back up.
got a black error screen.
...odd
rebooted, about 30 times, same thing.
called microsoft's tech support (easier said then done!)
apparently I have been "E 68"'d
this is the error code that my 360 kept giving, i've been told it means my 360's HDD is fried.
GUTTED.
so no dead rising, no saving games, no HDD and no help till I call MS bac this morning for a follow up
and I STILL never got to play the damn demo

So, I bit the bullet and picked the game up at Fry's yesterday ($49.99 special woot!).
I must say, my first impressions after giving it a good 3 hours yesterday is wow is this one tough. I wouldn't consider myself a "weak" or "bad" gamer, but if you're not paying attention to what you're doing, or put down some strategy in getting from point A to point B, you're going to get lit up by either zombies or the psychopaths.
This game has such an original feel, it's just great. Very much like Resident Evil in making everyday situations become quite terrifying. The sound and graphics totally rock and it would appear that motion blur is the new black.
My big question for anybody else who has played this... ***POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT***
1. Where do you find the key to unlock the exit doors?
2. How do you take out the convicts out in the leisure park? They always seem to kill me if I can't sneak by...

Aug 10, 2006, 08:30 PM
So I called MS back....
they said someone should have called me for a follow up *sigh*
after 20 minutes of diagnostics the woman told me my hard drive was dead...I knew this.
They asked me to mail the WHOLE console back to them...at my expense and they would test it.
I have to say, I went a bit nuts at her, I'd had the machine 3 months, spent £400 and now I had to ship it at a cost of around £30 on the possibility that they "might" be able to fix it.
I hung up on her and headed to Game where I bought it, I was almost sure they'd turn me away, they only have 30day policy.
I went in and calmly explained the situation, the guy on the desk said he'd have to check what to do with a manager and went into the back.
about a minute later he wandered out with a brand new console and handed it to me...with a new warranty...SCORE!
so I rushed home to set it up..only to find the faceplate, although still clipped to the machine was shattered...bummer.
so I went back AGAIN tonght, and the guy laughed at me and handed me another.
I got home...all seemed well.
hopped onto Marketplace and downloaded me some Dead Rising...
..and it all works! Woo and also Hoo!
The game itself is fantastic, I love it, although I have a few concerns, one...it got old fast. I hope the storylines and the missions make it more interesting.
also, when using the slegehammer..as he hits the zombie..the screen stutters slighty, everytime, and also when swining the hammer at a crowd.
I hope this kind of thing is a demo thing and that the game runs smoother in "real life"
Ps....Katana = Love.

This demo and 'N3' were the most repetitive, boring games I've ever played.
Honestly, why can't they make a game like this realistic and with online co-op? At least 'realistic' on the scale of 'Resident Evil 4'.
'Dead Rising' reminded me a lot of 'State of Emergency'. 'N3' reminded me of every other boring Japanese hack and slash game I've ever played.

This isn't suppose to be a game like Resident Evil. It has a lot of humor baked into it. I mean, what other game can you using a frying pan to fry zombie faces off, or throw a bucket on their head and watch them wonder around stupidly? From what I've heard there ARE online modes for the game as well. And lets face it, RE's controls have always sucked. Press UP to move forward no matter what direction you are facing? BAH! googleymoo @ that.

I never said I expected this game to be realistic in the slightest bit. I simply stated it that I would prefer it - believing it would make for a more intense experience - to actually play inside of a zombie movie. For example, only massive head trauma and incineration kills them. If you're bitten, you're screwed.
Basically, make 'Dawn of the Dead' into a game. No compromises for the average gamer. Let me lock myself up in a mall with a group of players online. Let me board up the entrances, hold up for a while and figure out some sort of escape plan.
And no, there is no online multiplayer for 'Dead Rising'. All it has is online scorekeeping - which I guess, if you're stupid, is really fun. This Penny Arcade strip (http://www.penny-arcade.com/images/2006/20060619.jpg) sums up my feelings on that...
Personally, I don't get anything out of seeing which one of my friends has a higher kill count or score. I do, however, get a lot from online co-op. Something the developers decided to omit entirely - along with 'fun' and 'decent combat system controls'.
Also, you must've never played 'RE:4'. The control system was completely reinvented. And although it still wasn't perfect, it was a massive leap forward from where they were.

Was that on GameCube? Then no. I had my GC for less than a week before I got rid of it. Metroid and the MGS remake were garbage, the only two reason I wanted it, so I sold it. Not only that, but I got sick of RE after the third game when all I heard every 6 seconds was "staaaaaaaaaaaaaars!" Please, I can't even wipe my ass for a second without hearing that godamn monster behind me trying to plug my girl's bit with his gorgeous smile.
I see your points though. And I agree that that wuld make a good game.

i know this is an old thread, but i had to say something. this game is amazing. i played the full version for like half an hour at a friend's house and it has singlehandedly made we set my sights on getting a 360 sometime this year.
The graphics and gameplay were both stupendous. You can use ANYTHING as a weapon. i used an umbrella from the food court, a pistol, a sub machine gun, chainsaw, bike, katana, battle ax, barbell, and propane tank just to name a few.
We even had frank dress up as a girl and beat a few zombies to death with a purse. A PURSE!!! it was great.

Yep. I haven't played this game fully yet but I like dispersed and infrequent saving. It increases the fear element if you think "crap I've come this far, I've really got to try and stay alive!". If you die, then you play on and get better.
Sure it takes away from the convenience of playing, but for that extra fear I'll take it.

To find the katana go upstairs to the eating area (w/ blender) and drop down out of the window towards the mall area. There is an orange overhead tarp that you can fall on that has the katana on it.
There is an uzi to the right of the main staircase, it is on a blue overhang. when you first spawn, go straight to the flight of stairs in front of you and kill all the zombies on it, then half way up the stairs, turn to the right until you see a blue overhand and jump onto it. walk very carefully down to the end past the teddy bear and the box.

This game is awesome. I failed to get the scoops the first time through, and ended up killing 28,972 zombies... Now I'm on my second time through (and am a level 32). I should be able to get most of the game done and so far I've saved 14 people. Those godamn cultist bastards piss me off. Always suicide bombing me and my survivors. Now I'm on my way to fight the hot spanish chick (whom I will give a proper pounding like she's never felt)...
After I complete this game I will be going after the Zombie Genocider achievement (53K zombie kills). I've already found the best way to do this (Think underground parking lot, 3 vehicles, lots of death). Though this is thoroughly boring, this process...

The save system doesn't bother me too much, but it does frustrate me...sometimes I need to save the game and turn off the 360 right then.
