Mac User Group

This is the description of our MUG:

Our aim is to cater for all types of Mac user from beginners to professional users with considerable expertise, in a support group offering help and advice to each other, and exchanging news and ideas in a friendly and informal way.

MUGs are a great way on exchanging info and meeting other mac users in your area.

Our MUG is the biggest MUG in the UK, with london being 2nd etc....

One problem with MUGs is the level of 'Mac-Headness' you get some people who use macs as a tool and don't really care who Steve is and others (like me) who are almost obsessed with Apple.

Well,...

Brown Univ had a MUG briefly... but it's been sort of defunct for the last year and a half.

The problem is that it requires a great deal of energy to do the advertisement, then to meet weekly in order to have the functional MUG. And the majority of the old members lived in the same program house (Techhouse). So we already hang out and chat about Macs whenever we want to. There wasn't enough stuff to talk about during meetings.

But if there's anyone reading this from Brown, feel strongly encouraged to push a MUG into existence again. BRUMUG owns half a dozen old Compact Macs which are sitting in my room waiting for people to enjoy their use.

I almost joined the Chicago MUG, but backed out at the last second. I think I eventually will, but not now. I think the statement about the MUGs being full of Users who don't get into the gossip and general Apple discussion is an accurate one. I guess it would be cool to drop by and help out some users, but it wouldn't fullfill my need to get Apple gossip.

I didn't know any mac users aside from the guys at work before I joined my MUG. In the UK the attitude towards macs is totally different to in the US so I never met any! Now I know alot!

I am the YMUG (Yorkshire Mac User Group) webmaster, check out: http://www.ymug.org/

By clean up a assume you mean the access.

Yes, I have Powermac G4 800 on its way to be our web server. Until then I didn't want to pay £120 to password it off properly. Also, most people who access the site have J$ turned on and don't even know what html stands for.
