I didn't know Quake 4 Demo was out. So I'm downloading it right now and I'm going to try it on my iBook. =P yes here are my specs:
1.33GHz - Req. 1.67GHz
1GB - Req. 512MB
32MB VRAM - Req. 64MB (128 Recommended)
Remember I played Doom 3 on my iBook and thought it ran well, let's see how Quake 4 handles ( it may take an hour or two before I post again, its a big slow download ).
EDIT: Make that 4 - 6 hours

I used have it on my 1.5GHz 17" PowerBook. It ran ok but jittery at 1024x768 on medium/low settings. Your vram might be a problem, but tell us how it goes (screenshot if possible too with com_drawFPS 1). It's beautifully smooth on my new MacBook Pro though.

Much faster.
I was disappointed by the demo.. just two very quick levels and that was it. Didn't get to do anything but run and gun a little... bah.

But it runs, which is what I wanted to find out. Heck I'd play it like that, same with Doom 3 (unless you had a masses of enemies, then I wouldn't lol). But I use my hardware to the extent I can take it. Hmm... should I overclock processor and video? lol jk

The download is just rediculous. I tried again and it was even slower!
There's no way I'm waiting 12 hours for a 500mb file.
Too bad, it looks fun, maybe I'll just buy the full game

Whoa...
We only just (like 3 months ago) upgraded to 512 from dialup. WTF kind of connection is that? That's F. Awesome!
I WAS happy (until now) with about 50, which is what I usually get now.

This is a pain in the neck, I've installed the demo, but I cant get it to run in widescreen, the highest it will go is 1280 in standard aspect ration 4:3, is there any console commands I should know trying to get this to run at 1680x1050?
Any help? It's bloody aweful to see about 1/4 of my screen completly blank

Other one is good for me too.
UPDATE: Easily playable on iMac G5. At Low Quality 800x600, it runs at 20 - 30fps during heavy combat.

To the previous question, I am on a 3.5Mbit/sec connection, which usually downloads at ~410 provided the server lets it.
I am running Quake 4 on an Intel iMac 2.0Ghz with 128MB RAM and 1GB RAM and it runs friggen sweet. I have it on high res and high quality settings (minus the AA and VSync) and it runs very nice.

Is the demo incredibly short - ending with the AA gun thingy?

hi, can anyone tell me if the full version of quake 4 runs any better than the demo version?
i have a dualcore g5 2.0 with an nvidia 6600 256mb... and 2.5 gb ram. it runs ok at pretty high res/settings, but i wish it had a little more - because i have a 24inch dell widescreen that runs 1920x1200 res natively... i don't expect to run that natively, but i'd like to get a few more fps at the settings i'm already running at....
so is the retail/full version better, speed wise?
cheers

Can anyone assist....
I bought the new quake 4 and upgraded the latest version. the game ran fine for a while, and after a certain point the frame rate dropped to about 7 or 8 FPS in places. Now even if I go back to previous saved games where it played ok, it now practically grinds to a halt. Has anyone experienced this. Does anybody know of a way of testing the graphics card to see if it running at full throttle.
Quake 4 settings are 1600 x 1200, all advanced options 'Yes' anti aliasing at 16x
System: Mac pro twin Xeon 3.00GHz with 4GB of RAM, 3 x 500GB hard drives, playing on a 30" apple monitor. Graphics card is the ATi Radeon x1900 XT
Thanks in advance.

Here's what I'd say to do, restart the computer and quit any open applications you may have, that includes Dashboard. Don't use any app that requires the graphics card if possible besides Quake 4. If none of those work I'd say download and use Onyx to optimize your system. And if that doesn't work repost.

r_mode -1
r_customHeight HEIGHT
r_customWidth WIDTH
r_aspectratio 2
vid_restart
You can choose between 0,1 and 2 but 2 is the right ratio for 1440x900 otherwise you get stretched widescreen.

i tried the demo seems like a great game ran smoothly on my 2.16GHz 15 inch macbook pro with 2GB ram. the graphics are amazing i just ordered it a few days ago and can't wait to get it!!
as for you who having troubles with downloading the demo why not download it through bittorrent? here's the link
http://www.macgamefiles.com/download.php?item=19241&title=Quake+4+Demo+%28bittorrent%29
also there is a great application that can be of use which quits everything (even finder) when dragging an application to it. it's called game launcher and here is its link:
