A friend of mine has a copy of iWork 06..if I use the serial number and skip registration...will apple still be able to track me down?

You can use the same disk on as many computers as you want I guess, but it's technically illegal if you don't also have a seperate license for those computers. I don't think Apple will track you down, though. For example, what if you uninstalled iLife '06 on one computer and then installed it on another? Again, it's technically not something you should be doing, but if you're feeling brave, I say go for it. :D
