I have to part with my beloved eMac...

1ghz G4
Combo
40GB HDD
768 MB RAM
Tilt/Swivel stand
Airport extreme
iLife 04
OS 10.3.9
Still under AppleCare

I was hoping to get around $500 for it... Is that reasonable?

[edit] I think I was way off in the market for the emac. After looking around, I don't think you'll get 500 for it, but maybe close to that, depending if you sell locally or if you do ebay (plus shipping fees, commission, etc). maybe 400 is more realistic. Remember though, it's not the newest emac, it doesn't have a dvd burner. etc. even 400 might be very optimistic. but that's just my opinion, others might disagree.

No one is legitimately selling a working intel iMac for $500.

Still, $500 for this eMac is optimistic. One weak stat is that small hard drive. Still, the extra ram, airport card, and stand should help a little.

Here's an eMac on eBay for $325. Doesn't have the airport card or stand, but has more RAM and a larger HD.

I don't know how to put this nicely, but no, I don't think you stand a chance at getting 500 for it. maybe 300 is more realistic. The reason why i say this is because i just saw an intel imac go for 500 on craigslist. sure, that might have been a great deal, but, at the same time, it's not the newest emac, it doesn't have a dvd burner. etc. even 300 might be very optimistic. but that's just my opinion, others might disagree.
I disagree.

That might be on the high side. Does it include the original boxes, manuals, accessories, etc.? A system complete with all original accessories would pull in the most money.

I would truly say, and I say it from experience, that if you find someone that *wants* an eMac, you can probably get $350-400. A lot of people really hate the eMacs, and will not want to pay as much because they figure it's a good machine spec wise, but they don't like the form, but for a good deal they will buy it.

Mac Of All Trade's base price on the Estimator is $225, but that is usually much lower than they'll pay you after you tell them the specifications. You might want to try PowerMax.com and see what they'll give you.

Good luck!

I can vouch for da2005pizimp's credibility. We had a succesful transaction at one point in the past. It may say newbie under the name, but is very trustworthy.

I may be into that... how much cash are we talkin'?

As for those Mac resellers: $225 base price... how much do you think they'll add for the upgrades/accessories?

Is $400 more reasonable?

If you're technically inclined, you might soup it up a bit with bigger HD and a superdrive. Both can be had for cheap, and should increase the appeal of the eMac to potential customers (most of which probably won't mod it themselves.) I've done both to mine (as well as overclock it)

If not, then it's not worth the bother of course-

if you want to post the pictures, you will have to make the link public for the threadstarter to view them... you are currently linking to the library you use when you are signed in.

I could do that... but Its a toss up between voiding what's left of the warranty and selling it 'cause its got a bigger drive or selling it 'cause its still under warranty... what to do what to do :o

Depending on when Applecare runs out it might be worth it to upgrade. If there is only a couple months left, then, sure, maybe go for it. But if there is a few months or more on it, then, maybe try and sell it how it is. My bro has an emac and it works great. but if you did upgrade, maybe go with a bigger hd, maybe superdrive if you can get that stuff cheap. but, once you modify it, you might find yourself wanting it even more :-P

wow... i didn't know that apple still sold those... still that one is a CD-ROM, less ram, and no airport. almost an apples to apples comparison :-P. ebay might give you some other ranges to consider.

Well, yes, but keep in mind that Apple is not exactly trying hard to sell its lingering stock of eMacs. This does not represent a "fair" price. More like a way of gouging the few people who must buy an eMac and must buy from Apple, like schools.
