I just bought RCT3 last night ... bad news is I didn't realize it didn't have a universal binary update.
As you may already know the game runs very crappy on intel. In most cases, unplayable. I found a few tweaks that help a bit. You still end up with low FPS, but the 30 second delay in placing objects is generally gone. However, placing coaster is still a huge "lag spike".
Try some of the following. This was tested on a 17" MBP.
- Disable shadows
- Disable clouds, background mountains, etc.
- Lower texture quailty. You don't want it maxed out, 60% seems to work well.
- Put all other object quailty at around 30% - 40%. I personally put tracks at around 75%
- Disable texture compression
- Disable anti-aliasing
For very simple parks it runs good. If you have a large park, you will start watching a slide show.
I am curious if anyone has good results on the above. If you find anything else that helps tweak, let me know :D
I really hope they released a UB of this game.
