Is there anything wrong with playing a game off of an external hard drive?

I have done it, and it seems to run fine, but some one recently told me that you shouldn't.

And this wasn't just a PC user proclaiming the apocalypse, but a Mac user.

all my games are on my firewire drive and since my powerbook hard drive is
slow the games run much faster with my firewire drive.

Never experienced any problems doing it either on Windows or OSX

A 4800/5400 RPM 2.5" laptop drive compared to a 7200RPM External drive in a firewire enclosure.

4800/5400 is slower than 7200......

Yeah, the read speed of a drive is the determining facttor. Even though one is connected directly to the MOBO, Firewire is extremely fast for data transfers (even fw 400), and if the external drives is even a little bit faster, you'll notice the difference.

Let me ask this any enclosures you guys recommend? Has anyone stuck a raptor 10K in an enclosure and played off it? What's your experience?
