I was in Zellers (crappy Canadian "big box" store), to buy some decent batteries for my digital camera. Took a stroll through the electronics to find them and BANG -- I found myself at check-out with a DS Lite, Brain Age, and New Super Mario Bros.
... Credit Card companies LOVE me.

I find it very difficult to not drop my DS Lite while trying to hug it. I prefer to give it a solid handshake.

:D You guys are right, I'm addicted! Especially with games like NSMB and Brain Age. Brain Age I have to (and WANT to) use every day, and I just cant put New Super Mario Bros down. Not to mention how gorgeous the Lite is. I'd actually owned a DS before but I wasn't interested in any of the games at the time, then I heard about the Lite and traded the DS in (to buy Guitar Hero) swearing I'd get the Lite sometime when it came out... also knowing that better games would be out by that time. Boy was I right! I love the size of the Lite... and the screens are so vibrant.
Man alive, does NSMB feel classic! I don't regret this insane impulse buy one bit!

I wonder what would happen if you tried walking through and Apple Store, just strolling through to pick up a pair of iPod socks...

you have to defeat the bosses as mini Mario. Personally I found boss 3 harder than 5 to beat that way! Eeks.

Same here, it took me quite a few tries to beat boss 3, boss 5 only took 2

no, he spent it on a LENS for a camera (no camera there)...
I want that lens. NICE lens, it's worth it! :)
back to Mario... last night I got through another world 8 level.. i think 8-8 or something, its the one where lava/rocks come down from the sky and bust holes in the ground / platform you need to run across to get to the end, with the little dudes that smoke up then explode. took me a few lives to get through there... it's actually a short level though :)
now I'm up to the last 'mini castle' before proceeding to the BIG castle at the end (which looks green'ish on my map screen) is this finally the end? hrmmm.
I have only about 17 gold coins left, after trading them all for lives hahahaha

I used a whole student loan cheque (and mother) to buy a Canon EOS 350D last year. Only bought it because photography was thrown into our course (New Media Design) and the photography lecturer had loads of projects lined up for us. I hated the film developing process so I bought a digital camera to get around it. didn't work. but I love the camera :)

LOL!! I know that feeling...
I spent nearly every section of my student grants on hardware, originally a ps1 on release, then a keyboard, then a dcc player, then an n64..... it goes on..... I see hardware and i must buy :D

Mine has been spent on PowerBook, Nintendo DS, a new phone (ROKR), new mouse, USB Midi cables, PSP (sold), DS Lite, Gameboy Micro, HL2, new video card, holidays abroad... haha. The only thing vaguely course related was the PowerBook, even then my laptop could have been used.
Anyone actually used their loan for education purposes?

Yeah, I have a $15,000 loan, and all of it's going towards tuition. :( Tuition to my school is $22,000/year, and when you add in housing/living expenses, it's supposed to be $37,000/year. EEEK.

Easy.. just find somebody who married and/or fathered a kid on impulse ;-) The money spent on your car are peanuts compared to the TCO of wife & kids ;-)
PS: I've also recently bought a NDS (black, since I live in Europe ;-)). Alas, I can't get Mario Kart Wireless working with the WLAN routers I've access to :( Well, I love my DS anyway..

Mad! It only costs me £3k a year in course fees (parents pay). £700 student loan in 3 annual instalments which has to be paid back. not too bad really in the UK!

One of the few advantages of living in a more liberal nation that I'll admit to. :p ;)
I'd love for the government to help me pay for (more) of my education. I get a staggering $4000/yr total from them. That's roughly 1/10 the total cost one year at SCAD. I borrow the rest from the government as well!

should be better for me on my 3rd year. no plans on having a student loan. so that's an extra £2100 I won't be paying back. My pops dived into the property investment world so it'll be a family "loan" this year... but really I doubt I'll spend any of it this year. I have enough for a Wii myself and thats all I want, maybe a Wacom... gah!
I almost made an impulse buy yesterday. a PS2! my mate kept saying "James, I'm always right. Don't buy it". He also told me not to buy a PSP, or a DS Lite. so he's not always right :p I just wanna play a few of the RPG gems for the PS2 but I doubt its worth the ridiculous price the PS2 is still going for. £100 for the slimline PS2 with a terrible free game! no thanks. if it was priced like the cube at £60 I would buy one now.

i'm also dying to pick one up. i've been hearing and reading so much about ds lite recently. a friend of mine mentioned he bought me one for my upcoming wedding but it's not until december.
i don't think i can wait until then. he also mentioned he got a white one for me. i want a black one. i wont be able to trade the white one for a black one either as i live in hong kong and my friend bought it in the states where he lives. urgh! either way, i'm getting a white one in a few months and would feel pretty bad about selling or giving it away to someone. any suggestions? also i hope the games aren't region coded, though i will need to get an adaptor for the voltage difference...also bit of a pain.
too bad my birthday is in feb, then i could use the excuse that someone bought me one as a present!
