View Full Version : My dad is a friggin Lunatic! *FUNNY****

So, my dad just got a brand new Black 60GB iPod in Fedex today, and what does he do?

He openes it up, and he tosses it on to the desk. He pickes it up and drops it on the desk again. And again, and again. He slaps it around a little bit, and then drops it on the floor. He drops it on the floor a few more times.

In between all of this he's saying things like "If this thing can't take a bit of a beating, what is it worth?" "I can toss my cell phone around like this" "If Steve wants to sell me an iPod that can't take a little beating, he can wipe his ass with it".

All the while, me and my older brother were looking at each other, wondering what on earth was going on.

Now my dad wants to call apple and tell them that the hold switch doesn't work (which it doesn't), and demand a new one. I told him that if he does that I will report him for fraud. He threatened to cancel the order of my Mac Pro. That's the "not so funny" part of the story.

But I hope you enjoy the funny part......

To be honest, I don't find any of it funny.

Don't worry, i'm not gonna let my dad get away with it. He's either gonna keep his broken iPod, or buy a new one for full price. :D

Have him trade it with Jeff (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=228541). ;)

Maybe he can use the Secret to get a new one for a reduced price...?

Does his mobile phone have a 60GB 1.8" hard drive and cost US$399?

I don't think so. An iPod is far more complex than a mobile phone.

Tell him he's a twat then go kick the doors of his car in, tell him "my soccer ball takes this sort of a beating every day so this car should be able to as well."

What a bloody moron.

I don't know about the hold switch, per se, but if your dad wants a durable iPod he should buy a nano or a shuffle instead... Intentionally dropping a hard drive on a hard surface isn't testing quality control, nor is it a sign of insanity, it's a sign of idiocy. While you're at it, tell him to order some Baccarat crystal stemware and drop it a few times to make sure it's high quality.

"My Hummer can take this kind of beating, why can't my wife and kids?"

Ok ok.....that's a bit different, but still.

I'm sorry, but even Tom Cruise doesn't behave like that. You're having us on, right?

I doubt he's having us on, from most of his posts it appears the acorn doesn't fall too far from the tree...

I know people who've deliberately dropped their phones down toilets, or even run over them in their car to claim back on insurance.

Whatever about the morality of the issue, doing so without an insurance policy is a bit weird - it's quite likely they'll notice scratch marks or scuffs on the iPod, which will look strange particularly if he sends it back within days of receiving it.

I guess slapping around an iPod is a better way to vent your deep-seated anger than slapping around people or animals. Erm. :o

Yeah, the dad is a moron.

Not only because, as Chundles pointed out, his logic is flawed, but because people like him drive up prices (I think that there are very few people like that though.) - but also because these acts probably influence the cost of Applecare. iPods supposedly have something like a 2% defect rate. This means that if just one person out of a hundred were to intentionally damage their iPod in hopes of a refund/fix, Apple would be saddled with 50% more cost, which could get passed down to the customer.

It seems that said dad is in need of a mid-life crisis girlfriend / sports car / motorbike.

I wouldn't call that funny, or your dad a lunatic. To me he sounds like an complete idiot.

I think that I'll go out and buy a new car and purposely drive it into trees & cars to see how safe it is.

From other posts, it seems like the whole family could be benefitted by some therapy...

Maybe they can get a discount for buying in bulk. :p
