IT LOOKS LIKE the PS3 is way too powerful for us mere humans, and because the value is so overwhelming, Sony is going to make it a little more palatable. The RSX, previously scheduled to run at 550/700 core/memory has been realigned with expectations and the value chain at 500/650.

We can't tell you why the GPU lost nearly 10% of it's clock, it could be an NVidia screwup, or it could be Sony/Cell. Either way, it just became much less of an overwhelming value, but you get a DRM infected drive for 'free' either way.

As a help to the fanbois who inevitably write in somewhat curious broken englishish every time their precious console gets re-specced in a downward manner, please cut and paste the following. It will save you at least an hour trying to figure out the parts of the keyboard that are not WASD:

Its probably due to heat. Those 7800 chips are VERY hot runners. The RSX is based off of the GeForce 7800 GPU.

The actual speeds of the chip dont matter. The 7800 which is what the RSX is based off of is up to 9x faster than a 9800XT. A 9800XT is almost 3x as fast as a 9600.

Clock speed is almost useless for comparing GPU's of different architecture.

I've seen graphics cards of one brand outperform graphics cards of another brand with three times the clock speed.

It's primary use is for measuring how much you overclock the card by ;)

I think the PS3's GPU actually had more polygon-pushing power than the XBox 360's, though I might be wrong.

The XBox 360's is very well designed though, with the free antialiasing, so it took less work to do some of the effects (like 4x AA) and the result was that the XBox 360 does better in most real-world situations because while the PS3's actually is faster it has more bottlenecks and thus takes it more work to do some things.

i would love for all the rumors and secrets to stop and for Sony (and Nintendo for that matter) to just say "OK! here's the deal..." and explain it all. Sony shouldnt' be changing things this close to launch, get those damn things on the production line. IGN keeps saying "Sony has more in store at TGS!" well they said that at E3, then at GC now at TGS, just say what you have to say damn it! :mad:

To PS3 buyers - If it means the system being out sooner is a possibility then isn't that a good thing? Sure Sony have gone back on what they originally said, anyone who didn't think that would happen deserves a Japanese PSX. It's like Sony altering the shift of Blue laser diodes from everywhere to the PS3. They just want the machine out.

Oh man, that's funny. Not funny "ha, ha" but funny "D'oh!" As if the launch of Blu-ray hasn't been hampered enough. If Sony keeps this up HD-DVD will win by default 'cause Blu-ray can barely get out of the starting gate.

So they basically are not commiting to a fourth season and playing it by ear. But he has been signed for a full third series. So should audience figures go belly up they will at least end the show on a full third series rather than pullled halway through....

However with an estimated 17.2 million US viewers - the chances are we will be seeing it for a long time.

Wow 300k per episode..thats a lot.. William Petersen from CSI(Plays Grissom) makes about 100 per episode which i thought was alot(it still is but 300k makes it look smaller) i hope the keep paying him until the end of a season, i don't want it just to end in the middle of one.

Im wondering if House should end, I found towards the tail end of the second season that the 'formula' it follows (ie. think its one thing, its not, almost kill patient, try again, house sees some chance encounter, BAM cure) was starting to get a little predictable, but then again I didnt see the lresult of the ast episode of season 2 coming so maybe im just out of it or something...
