I'm going to request someone try Age of Empires 1 and 2, and the Starfleet Command series.
It's not really a game, but if someone has a copy of 3D Studio Max on hand, please try it...I use it to mod a lot of my games.

I'm waiting for HL2 to update right now.
Edit: It played music for about 1 second then crashed and needed a Cmd-Opt-Esc.

Had some trouble with my Half Life 2 install discs, so I downloaded it. It's taking forever to start, the menu text is readable but messed up, and changing the resolution made it go all kinds of crazy. I'm going to tweak it and see if I can actually get into the game, and maybe get some screenshots.

I tried Counter strike source and surprisingly got into a game. It crashed each time though after playing less than 2 rounds. It also ran noticeably slower than it does it boot camp. I would guess about 10-15 fps. That 10-15 fps was at full resolution(1440x900) but that is the the same resolution I play in boot camp.

Now you know how linux users have been feeling for all these years ;)
anything to do with wine means a drop in resolution (i'd go for 1024x768)
Also, transgaming are doing a wine port for mac - which will be much better for games . I'd wait for that

Rollercoaster Tycoon 3
The Movies
Black & White 2
Trackmania : Sunrise
All do not work. A couple installed but when starting up looked for the cd, that was already in the drive  and came back with protection errors. I assume after the game has installed in Crossover - it can no longer access the drive - so it's a bit pants at the moment...

It's not so much that it can't access the drive, but that it can't access it to the level required by copy-protection systems.

Well maybe it can't access the drive at all, I'm just guessing here :) but I'm assuming that it mounts the drive as a folder, rather than as a drive.

When I used to muck around with Wine on Linux I had the same problem with copy protection for my legally bought games - I always installed a no-cd patch, that usually solved the problem...
Mind you, I only installed a few games like that.
It's not because you bought the game that can't save wear and tear (plus disc juggling) by installing a no-cd patch.

lol, no, I just used to do some modding in my free time. That's why I mentioned Starfleet Command. I worked with some other 3D modellers who made Star Wars ships and tweaked their models to make them work in Starfleet Command 3, and released a mod that added Star Wars ships to the game. Star Trek vs Star Wars. :D

I downloaded and installed the Max Payne 2 demo. It plays pretty well, with a few minor graphical glitches, but I dont get any ingame sound. On the forums at the cross-over web site, a person posted somthing about changing the audio driver, but I have no idea how to do that. Anyone have any ideas?

I installed steam, which runs just fine. I then downloaded HL2, which launched into 800x600 with really messed up text (fine verticle purple bars running through the middle of every word). When I tried to change to 1400x900 is first displayed in a tiny window on the upper-left of my screen with black bars all around, then only the top half of the menu screen on the lower part of my screen, then I cmd-option-esc'd it because I couldn't access any of the buttons on the distorted, cut off menu.
Not a great sucess, but closer than to running HL2 in OSX than anything before!

That's exactly what happened to me, except I quit out and retried after the screen went all weird and then every time I tried to start it up it crashed on the menu and said it couldn't load some vertex buffer or something.

When you launch HL2, did you get a message about your video drivers? Cause I did and that may be the problem...

Prey Works at nearly full speed!!!!!! WOO!!!!!! I played it at lunch today!!! Woo! Im happy cuz that game has rediculous minimum requirements and if it can run in this, im sure many more games can too. Also, it DOES have success with games, just not finding the CD rom ;)

I did, but I get that same message in Boot Camp when I play Episode One and that runs without any problems.
Anyway I wasn't able to find any new drivers.
CS: Source has the same text problems as Half Life 2, and I didn't even risk trying to change the resolution. I tried joining a match and the screen went black as I was choosing a side, and the same thing happened when I created my own server.
I give up on this thing.

Hmm... I was hoping to use this for some gaming, but it looks like I may have to spring for Windows. Bleh. LOL
For what it's worth, here is the list of officially supported apps for the Mac version of Crossover:
http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/supported_apps/
And the list of supported apps for the Linux version of Crossover I assume:
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/cat/
They take pledges if an app doesn't work, you just donate what you can and hopefully there will be work done to make that game compatible.

Ok guys, I have progress.
I launched HL2 again and it launched into a 1400x900 menu screen with slightly distorted text. I launched a new game, and it loaded all the way. I then got to the G-man voice-over, and heard it, but got no visuals. I'll try again later.
I am on a MBP 2.0 1gb 100gb 7200rpm with the 256 vRAM.

I have a HL2 update:
I can still hear but not see the intro with the g-man.
However the trainstation in "Point Insertion" loads and plays:

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c46/THE_notorious_WAFFLE/09-01-06_1901.jpg
Yay!
But then, when I get into the CP room with Barney, I upp the graphics back to their recomended settings (I had downgraded textures to medium from the recomended high to get the best chance of loading) and suddenly I got this:
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c46/THE_notorious_WAFFLE/09-01-06_1904.jpg
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c46/THE_notorious_WAFFLE/09-01-06_1903.jpg
Uh Oh!
Anyway, the gameplay when working seemed a bit choppy, but undoubtedly playable. Hopefully the release version of crossover will make everything function just fine.

Hopefully gaming will improve with the release of Cider (http://www.transgaming.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&file=index&func=display&ceid=24). Should make it easy for running windows games on OSX.
Exciting times for the Mac platform!

First, America's Army: it really took a while to let everything run. First off, after installing it takes a pretty long time to load. Then, it goes full screen, but there is only a black screen, so you need to cmd-opt-shift-R out of full screen, and work in windowed mode. Then, your mouse is stuck going upward, making it impossible to navigate menus, let alone play. After trying for a long time, I found that you can cmd-tab out of the game, and then you have to resize the window (extend it a bit to the bottom) and then your mouse should work fine. The standard sound settings are too high, so you have to lower them, and the mouse movement is a bit diifferent, but overall, the game is playable.
I have been doing the basic training, all went well, but the last part before you can engage in any real playing, went wrong. The MOUT training, where the mouse stops working (you can use arrow keys, mouse buttons should work) and during the introduction, the game crashes (right after introducing you to the M9 pistol, the Beretta 92 FS)
This might be fixable, but I cannot garantue there are no problems with the online play.
Second, I am now trying some game demos, they are smaller, do not require CD's to run or install, and come in neatly packaged .exe files.
So far, I tried Railroad Tycoon 3, which worked right away, and in full screen. Only problem was that the ground textures were flickering and mostly they are jsut beige, which isn't that appealing, but the game is playable.
The Rise of Nations Demo crashes while loading the scenario
Now, the games I tried but didn't work:
Morrowind: cannot find a DVD drive after installation, may work with no-CD crack
Port Royale 2: installer won't show, just a white screen
Battlefield Vietnam: cannot find CD drive for second installation disc
Windows Live Messenger (okay, not really a game) requires Windows XP
The Battle for Middle Earth 2: requires Windows XP
others will follow...
Can anyone try out the free F.E.A.R. Combat game? It's basically F.E.A.R. withouth the single player, and is offered free with CD-key by the makers of the game. There can't be any problems with the CD's or DVD's, so it might work. but since I have a 10 GB monthly download limit, I won't risk almost 20% of it for something that might work.
BTW, I am working on a 2,0 GHz Macbook with 1GB of RAM

Cider doesn't let you run Windows games on OS X. It lets developers make OS X games from their Windows code.

I was playing Counter-Strike 1.6 earlier on Steam for a little while until it crashed on me a few times......... Day of Defeat on Steam crashed even more.... but least I got a few minutes of gameplay in.
Hopefully they fix the problems.
