View Full Version : Whats your Favorite Soda?

So I was wondering with the many shapes, colors, and especially flavors of many soda's do you like the best?

I think my Fav has to be something I've only had in europe, its like half coke/half orange soda. Really different.

I suppose my U.S based has to be Vanilla Coke w/Ice. Vanilla coke is terrible not cold, I have no idea why but when its hot, it is the worst thing to drink but it is nice and refreshing when cold...

The new comers I have yet to try are dNL (Or 7up-Upsidedown)
http://www.dpsu.com/dnL_20-ounce_bottle.jpg
See here... (http://www.dnlflipit.com/flash.cfm)
Or the newly released (get this) Tropical Sprite Remix.
http://www2.coca-cola.com/presscenter/img/imagebrands/sm_sprite_remix.jpg

The worst soda I have ever had is probably pepsi blue. Pepsi, stop advertising this now. It's like a good asian blueberry drink but somehow they made it to suck, how? why? I dunno it sucks.

So post some comments don't flame others or me, be friendly and have some fun, OK? :D

Edit: Few people have had dNL mass prod. comes very soon.
Tropical Sprite is coming, only like 50 people from the public have had it (best of my knowledge), your not alone if you haven't had it.

i've always been partial to dr. pepper and root beer, but i like coke too. i didn't mind that pepsi blue, it was ok, nothing special though. ive never seen that dnL before, or that sprite remix. wonder how they taste.

shut the heck up with your stupid opinions and threads!!!

hahaha

seriously though.. good topic

for me, it all depends on what i'm drinking it with...

with popcorn, mountain dew and coke are best.... code red is great for a more refreshing, not so soda like drink.... though i think i could guzzle mountain dew just as well

and coke is probably the most univeral soda type product. in other words, goes with most things for me

hey 3rd.... does dr. pepper have some sort of medicinal use or something? my uncle has had cancer for a while and ever since i can remember he's drank dr. p 24/7... brings his own with him everywhere..... just curious if you know anything about why that might be.

Yeah you can taste the vanilla because there is no real sugar in it. The sugar blends the vanilla and sugar, when sugar is taken away you obviously taste more of the other thing.

I'm with Aztec with this one, Club Soda and Pepsi Blue are horrible... (IMO)

Adding vanilla coke to coke (or vanilla coke) how much do you add? How do you know when its enough?

Anyone gonna give the secret up? :D

About 10 years ago, Snapple made an awesome Root Beer, but I have not been able to find it for years. It was all natural and had a good bite to it. Also, it was clear. If anyone knows where you can still buy this stuff, let me know.

Jolt Cola is great (keeps you awake for hours!), Mitsuya Cider is a nice change and C.C. Lemon is refreshing. We also have Fanta Tropical, Fanta Peach and Fanta Grape - all nice but the tropical is the newest and great with vodka.

Also like Pepsi Twist (Pepsi with lemon, before Coke with lemon was launched here). Vanilla Coke not in Japan yet, but had it in Australia. Tasted like a 'spider' - soda with a scoop of ice cream. Had A&W Root Beer in the USA liked that too. No root beer in Japan, and it is called Sarsperella (sp?) in Oz anyways.

Anyway, you cannot beat a nice cold glass of sparkling (carbonated) mineral water with a slice of lemon or lime or even a couple of drops of food flavouring

Kampai (Cheers)

My grandma used to give me that, because she didn't believe sodas were healthy, so she wouold put some mineral water in a glass, squeeze a lime into it, and add some cranberry juice, or any other type of juice...

It was actually pretty good...

I've stopped drinking soda in general. I might have one every couple weeks or so if I'm out and I don't have much of a choice. Water is usually my first choice, but for a carbonated beverage....well that would be beer ;)

I like Pepsi, but the one they produce in Mexico or Europe. I believe the American version uses corn sugar, but the Mexican has cane, and the European has beet sugar in it. It definitely makes a difference. Also Mountain Dew, DNL, and Dr. Pepper, being from Texas and all...

BTW, in the old days, (~1900) they used to drink Dr. Pepper hot, like tea. A lot of my die-hard Dr. Pepper frineds will open a can, leave it in their car in the Texas heat, and by the time they drive away from work, they have nice hot Dr. Pepper - they swear by it.

Best:

Pepsi
Diet Pepsi
Wild Cherry Pepsi (Except in 1liter bottles)
Pepsi One
Pepsi Blue
7up
Dr. Pepper
Mug Root Beer
RC Cola
Canada Dry Ginger Ale
Slice (All Flavors)
Patriots' Choice
Mountain Dew (I don't drink much, b/c of the Yellow 40 thing)

Worst:
Anything with relations with Coke
Sierra Mist
Faygo
Shasta
Any Store Brand, except Patriots' Choice

BTW: The name "Soda" comes from one of the ingredients, sodium-bi-carbonate (AKA Baking Soda), that is what carbonizes the water, and gives the high sodium content to soda. Pop is only a nickname, comming from the sound made when a can or bottle is open, they are both acceptable. Here though (OR & WA) soda comes in a can or from a fountain, pop comes from a bottle (Go figure).

No, I didn't title my thread 'Whats your Favorite Pop?' I said Soda, and I meant what I said. And cream sodas are good.

Getting back to things:
TEG, IMO Pepsi One is a stupid idea, hey, why don't we make a beverage without the flavor or pepsi and with like .1g of sugar so that people think its one calorie. I remember I read on a Pepsi one bottle like 1 Cal for 2 Servings. Hey that equals 2 Cal! Not like it matters.

And I have already stated my IMO on Pepsi blue: bad, cheap rip off of already cheaper asian products. GOOD JOB!

Yeah I told the clerk it was cola I was buying not brew. She was shocked. I wish I had a picture of the bottle.

I was drinking Henry Weinhardt Rootbeer at work ( also a dark beeresque bottle). Anyways a manager saw me drinking it (thought it was beer) and her eyes almost came out of her sockets. She surely looked pissed off. I then turned the bottle to show her the label and she then smiled.

Royal Crown Draft. Hand-crafted, high quality production methods combine pure cane sugar (no corn syrup), the finest Kola nuts available, all-natural flavours and pure filtered water to produce Royal Crown Draft's rich, smooth and fresh draft taste. Unfortunately, due to the controversy over the "beer bottle" shape, and the high price, it was not a money maker and was discontinued.

I'm a big Dr. Pepper guy. Yeah. I don't like cola that much, Coke and Pepsi are both too carbonated, though Coke (or Pepsi) with a lemon twist is good (and I don't mean Pepsi Twist).

I don't wanna start a massive debate, but what IS it with Coke vs. Pepsi? No blind taste tests could prove noticeable differences, so what's the big deal ('cept that Coke used to have contents of questionable modern legality :D)?

I can tell the difference between Pepsi and Coke. Coke has more of a bite, while Pepsi is sweeter...

As for the 'coke' part of Coke, I think that's how it started. I heard that they replaced it with caffeine, which was also addictive, but legal

True, but the original purpose of this drink was to numb PAIN, not as an average off the street corner drink. Anyway back then 'cocaine' (oh no I said the real word is someone gonna beat me now?) wasn't illegal so puting it in a pain reliever beverage.

People started to drink some wo/'cocaine' and they like it even more so that is how you can get regular Coke (drink :p )

Dr. Pepper has such a unique taste; the only other drink that I can compare it to is a sweet Greek beverage called Sumatha... only Dr. Pepper has gas in it. Most people cannot stand it but anything that is not popular with the average person on the street is a good thing in my book.

The cherry Cokes were great while they lasted here in Australia but they have not returned since their limited release ten years ago.

There is also a Japanese peach iced tea made by a company called Pokka and I highly recommend it for the next time you eat Japanese take-away. It is much better than anything by Lipton.

I like Coke a little better than Pepsi but I like Diet Pepsi much more than Diet Coke.

Please, everyone: Note that Dr Pepper has no period after the 'r'. Look at the can carefully if you didn't notice this before. We doctors are very particular about having our names spelt correctly! :)
Haha. Oh we are so silly sometimes.
Okay So what is the Difference bewteen
'Dr. Pepper' & 'Dr Pepper' ? Not much because they still both mean 'Doctor Pepper'
You don't say pronunce the D and the R you say doctor pepper.

I'm just kidding, it don't really matter at all. :p

I'm just kidding, it don't really matter at all.Paraphrased from an article at the Dr Pepper Museum (http://www.drpeppermuseum.com/dr-pepper-facts.html):

Dr Pepper originating in 1885 at Morrison's Old Corner Drug Store in Waco, Texas. It is the oldest of the major brand soft drinks in America. Charles Alderton, a young pharmacist working at Morrison's store, is believed to be the inventor of the now famous drink. Store owner Morrison is credited with naming the drink "Dr Pepper". The period was dropped in the 1950s. Unfortunately, the origin for the name is unclear. The Museum has collected over a dozen different stories on how the drink became known as Dr Pepper. So it wasn't always missing the period.

It's funny that people could drink it for years and never notice the spelling, even though it is inches from your eyes when you drink from the can.

My first choise would be WATER! :)
Second choice would be iced tea (unsweetend, fresh)
and I prefer Pepsi products in general over horrible Coca-Cola products. Sierra Mist is very good. :p

Nuts to Bill Gates. If he doesn't like drinking the same brand of soda as a Mac fan like me, he can switch. ;)

Let's see... My all-time favorite would have to be a good rootbeer float. As for soda brands, I'm a Vanilla Coke, Coke, Barqs, and Dr Pepper kinda guy (depending). I'm also fond of IBC rootbeer, and those ginger beers/ales that almost BURN on the way down. :D

When I was in Britain for a few months, I became fond of Lilt and Tango (I believe those were the brands), probably because they're so different from my regular soda choices.

And I think I'm the only person around with positive memories of Crystal Pepsi... then again, I only ever had it once or twice.

What do you think apple stocked the 'apple stores' (originally) with? 'Genuis Water' It was cool and refreshing. :D

Look it up. I forget which company.

I agree with H20 being refreshing. It doesn't leave an after taste and thereby statisfies the thirst. The water with just a hint of a fruit taste is great!

OK. Time to be a "soda" snob. (By the by, I grew up in Michigan and we called it "pop." Soda still sounds wrong to me, but no one knows waht "pop" is. Does any other geographical region call it pop?)

US brands would be either Diet Dr. Pepper or Squirt.

Better than either of those are the following, and no I'm not kidding:

1. Virgin Cola from UK.
2. "McDonalds Cola," also from the UK and not Coke, although I think they now serve Coke.
3. Isreali Coke. It's a kosher variety, and sold throughout the middle east (because it is also hallal, the Islamic version of kosher). I got this when I lived in Kuwait.
4. Mexican Coke - much sweeter than US. You can get it here in the US at any half-way devent mexican grocer.
5. "Inca Cola" I used to eat at this peruvian restuaruant in DC and this is what they served, straight from the bottle.

I grew up in New York State, where it's soda, but I've been in Michigan for about a year and a half, and already they've got me using that silly word. ;)

As for where it's called what, I'll point you to... The Great Pop vs. Soda Controversy (http://www.popvssoda.com/). These maps are just based on self-reporting, nothing scientific, but the results are certainly interesting.

I grew up in Oregon and we called it pop.

My all time favorite pop is probably Fanta or Old Colony grape.

Orangina is good too. Does that count as pop?

I grew up in Chicago where "pop" was the term used though I now use soda now living in Miami. As for the best soda well non-U.S. I'd have to say hands down is this SouthAmerican Peruvian soda called Inca-cola which by they way also used an ingrediant that Coke used in the beginning. Though not really a soda but more of a drink is an Italian one called "Orangina". As for U.S. well I prefer Pepsi and Mountain Dew. The worst would have to be any root beer since I really can't stand anything more than a sip of that stuff.

I drink Coke, Vanilla Coke, Cherry Coke (my favorite), I even drank Coke II for about a year (you can still find it in some places).

Personally, I can't stand Pepsi (although I'll admit that fountain Pepsi tastes almost the same as fountain Coke). There's just something about Pepsi that I hate.

One of the best unusual sodas I ever had was a Chinese (I think) Watermelon soda at Epcot Center. It was really good.

One last thing, that Tropical Sprite sounds good.

Watermelon Soda sounds good! Was that at Disney World? Something to look forward to at my next visit! ;)
