No gunfire animation coming from guns in Halo?

What would be causing this and how can I fix it? For instance, on the assault rifle, there's no fire coming out the barrel at all when I'm shooting. On the plasma pistol, when I charge it up, the gun glows green, but there's no ball of plasma forming in front of the gun. What gives?

You probably have some sort of effect turned off that the gunfire is made out of...

Particles turned on? That sounds like the culprit here. As you mentioned plasma pistol it could be lens flare too.
