View Full Version : Need stock RAM from any Core Duo Mac (New Jersey)

Here's my problem: I bought the Macbook in my signature the week they came out in Europe. Now I'm stuck in the US for a while and my Macbooks hase some serious hardware problems:

1. Screen backlight has a loos contact. It's getting worse every time I move it
2. Power goes off. When I boot it up just after it went off, it sometimes goes on and the power goes off even before the optical drive makes its sound. I usually have to wait a few hours before the mashine works long enough to backup the hard drive to an external

I know I cn get it repaired here in the US. But I don't have the original package of the Macbook and its original RAM with me. They both are across the Sea. What's likely to happen when I bring it to an Apple store here? I'm afraid they will give me a new Macbook with only 512MB in it. Can I give the Apple Guys the Macbook without any RAM in it for repair?

So I was wondering if there's someone in New Jersey who can borrow or sell me stock RAM from any Core Duo Mac (Macbook, Macbook Pro or iMac).

Please help me.

They will repair the macbook, but if they will tell you that if they find that the memory is at fault you may have to pay for the repair... it coves their asses.

If they give you a new replacement, tell them to exchange the ram out of your old for the new...

Shouldnt be too much of an issue.

Thanks for the reply. I ran the mashine on either one of the 1 GB RAM sticks and the problems remained. I guess I'll keep one 1 GB stick and give them the Macbook with "only" 1 GB of RAM.

Mine had the random shutdown issue as well. They were eager to give me a brand new machine, good luck. I just saw some news today that they may have found out what is causing it:

Hope this helps!

Woa, thanks. That helps a lot. And it makes sense. Once it's cooled down it doesn't happen so fast again.
